If this rumor is true and they have an iPhone closer to 4.8 inches I think that would be a huge game-changer. One of the reasons that I was leaning android was for the nice, big screens but if apple can actually do this then they have my monies.

Also this article hinted at a July release date.

Sorry for the mobile site. Posting this from my mini iPhone 4.

Seriously, I don't want a giant screen on my phone. 4.7+ is just absolutely obnoxious.

If true, luckily it's just an option.

The perfect screen size is whatever Apple says it is.

How big of a screen do you people (insert tropic thunder meme here) want? They just raised the size with the 5 and its plenty big enough. if you want a big screen just get a tablet or mini tablet or whatever.

The screen on the 5 is still too small (and a major reason I switched to Android with an S3 last summer). 4.7" is about right.

I prefer the current size. I always find it funny watching someone with a tablet sized phone.

Until they can make a foldable touch screen (flip phone with a touch screen), I hope iPhone keeps their current size as an opption.

4.7" is not tablet size.

Depends on whether you have man-sized hands or dainty, female hands.

I prefer one that actually fits in my pocket.

Too big for a pocket though, which is a deal breaker for me.

I'd be open to looking at a good Android phone if it were a more inbetween size.

+1

And so you don't have to change your 42 code around to match different sized screens right?

I think my S3 display is just about the perfect size. Give me a phone with:

replaceable battery
memory card
really long battery life

Prefer less add-on garbage but I'm not willing to root so I can live with Samsung's stuff so far.

I'm 5'5" and I don't have any problems with my Note 2 fitting in my pocket. Then again I don't wear skinny jeans.

If you stop wearing skinny jeans then any screen size around 5 inches will fit your pockets just fine.

Just to be clear, the iPhone 5 is 2.31" wide and the GS4 is 2.75" wide. Are you telling me that less than half an inch is enough to make a phone not fit in your pocket? You get ~43% more screen size for .44" additional width in your pocket.

The new S4 has a bigger screen in a smaller body. I think that's more important than screen size.

I'm on my second iphone, but I'm looking forward to getting something different. I know having a larger screen will be nice, but I'm not sure if I'll like a larger phone.

Also, iphone rumors are common and frequently wrong.

Cool to see that there might be an option smaller than 4" available. I have a 4s (3.5") and my husband has a 5 (4"). I guess I have freakishly tiny hands, because the larger screen gives me problems. Trying to operate his phone one handed is damn near impossible for me and I was afraid that larger screen size was the new standard.

That skinny jean joke was already used...in this thread even. I guess copying other people idea's are built into the android fanbase too :-p

Funny that you just compared the width of the phone and not the volume...

Galaxy S3 – 5.38 x 2.78 x 0.34 inches -> 5.08 in^3
iPhone 5 – 4.87 x 2.31 0.30 inches-> 3.37 in^3
iPhone 4 - 4.50 x 2.31 x 0.37 inches-> 3.85 in^3

I personally don't like the size of iPhone 5 as it is, so the jump to a S3 would be ridiculously annoying to me.

There is a reason I still have my 4s.

Not long ago companies were competing to have a smaller phone than the next guy. Now we've made a 180? Why?

No, the best way will be to allow an external touch screen. The phone will be 4s sized, but if you really want more screen you can buy a 2005" flat panel touchscreen and pair them.

4.5-4.7" is ideal for me. My phone fits in every single pair of pants I own except one where I've "outgrown" one of my pairs of jeans.

Had the original Galaxy Note at one point and I couldn't sit down unless I was wearing deep pocketed slacks.

The discussion was in reference to fitting the phone in your pocket, which unless you're Peter Dinklage I'm pretty sure there is not a phone on the market that is too tall to fit in men's pockets. The Galaxy S4 is .01" thicker than the iPhone 5, something I thought was not worth mentioning. That leaves width, the only thing I chose to discuss.

I'm willing to bet that the majority of people who throw out the "I want a phone that will fit in my pocket" line have had a non-iPhone in their pocket for less than 30 seconds ever. If you think the phone is too big for your tastes that's fine, everyone certainly can and does have their own opinion on the matter. However, I personally don't think the "it wont fit in my pocket" claim is true.

Not long ago, phones were purely a tool for making phone calls. There was nothing to be gained by having a bigger phone. Now phones revolve around everything you can do on the screen and we like to see things bigger.

Are TVs getting bigger or smaller? The screen is getting larger while the device itself is shrinking. Phones will follow the same trend.

Oh, I'm sure it will "fit" in my pocket just fine...up until I have to sit down that is.

And believe it or not, I have seen a GS3 up close. No way I would put up lugging that thing around.

I don't wear skinny jeans...I wear jeans that fit and I'm not fat.

Will a bigger phone "fit" in the pocket? Sure. But as Mr Fry just noted, it's uncomfortable as heck when you sit down.

I think we've discovered it here first folks... phone size is a personal choice!

Unfortunately for those who like smaller phones (I used to prior to my N4), you're in the minority.

Why carry a phone at all, then? Why not a cellular capable laptop or tablet?

I carry a gn2 in my front pocket every day. I usually wear Carhartt blue jeans to work in and buckle brand jeans to go out. I have a 32"waist and 34"inseam. The damn thing fits perfectly fine in there, sitting or standing.

I can understand why girls don't want bigger phones because their pockets really can be tiny but I just can't see guys having problems with carrying a phone this size. Using one may give some guys problems but just don't use "pocket size"as an excuse.
fig96

Must be because I'm so well endowed then.
LGAggie
How long do you want to ignore this user?
If Apple came out with a phone comparable in size to the gn2 I'd be all over it. They offer different Mack book sizes, different ipad sizes, why not different phone sizes?

Thanks, that was a totally called for response for a random humorous comment.

This is how I imagine PJF now.

I have a GS3 in my 32" waist pants pocket right now and I almost forgot it was there. Some of you guys have to really reach for reasons to justify your purchases.

Regardless, your personal preference is fine. Just know that when you tell people that they're crazy for "lugging around" a 4.8" screen, they don't buy it.

I can't believe some people think that the big Android phones don't fit in a pocket. Even the Note fits just fine. I don't understand people sometimes.
