If I could put something together like gunnar optics, in prescription, would anyone be interested?

Hmmm. Maybe, I had never heard of these until now.

I'm pretty sure Zeiss already makes that.

I would be interested in a pair of the X-Ray-001s. I'll just pick them up using my gold plated helicopter.

Yeah, and I can probably get better optics for a better price then what they are doing.

Oh and zeiss glasses lenses are not the same as their telescopic lenses, before anyone pipes up about zeiss quality. They are good but there are better

Be very leery of these, I found that I cannot wear them for any extended period of time without becoming quite dizzy and lightheaded. I am only speaking from experience with a prescription pair of Gunnars.

I bought a pair of the SheaDogs for gaming, computer use, and night time driving. While they do work well for computer use, I would recommend taking them off while not at a desk looking at the computer as they can potentially make you dizzy. They actually cut down glare quite well while driving at night but again I couldn't overcome the lightheaded/dizzy feeling after an extended period of time.

One other annoyance with these is the size of the engraving of "GUNNARS" on the top left of the left lens. I also have multiple pairs of prescription Oakleys so I have also had to get used to the "O" engraved on the bottom left of the left lens. The size of the Gunnar engraving is just large enough to cause a bothersome blur on the edge of the lens while looking straight ahead for myself.

I assume the lightheaded/dizzy feeling is an issue with the wrap around of the lens and may only be applicable to a small number of individuals. Unfortunately I am one of them. I wouldn't have initially thought this since I love my Oakley A-wires, Half-Jackets, and Flak Jackets.

Again this is just one Ag's opinion but if you intend to drop the money on an Rx pair, check the return policy. I unfortunately was too late in attempting to return mine.

Again, zeiss opthalmic (glasses) lenses are not the same as the camera/binocular/scope lenses. Those are produced in europe and are top tier lenses. Carl zeiss vision lenses are made in the usa. We sell zeiss products at my office, but use them the least because we like the offerings from other manufacturers better.

As to the wrap and other issues with gunnar frames, that is what I want to address. Wrap, especially in prescription causes changes in the perceived vision of the patient. Gunnar uses wrap frames because they look cool but I'm looking at something that would work better

I bought a pair after reading the mumbo jumbo all across the web about them. I told myself, "Why not what have I got to lose and if they work well great!" I have been using them for gaming and just when on my computer (which is all the time) and they do help. I have had fewer headaches and less eye strain. I would definitely recommend them.

TheEyeGuy,
Are you an optometrist? My understanding of Gunnar lenses are the telescoping effect is basically a slight add power added to the lens, which causes the headaches mentioned previously in this thread. I'm just not overly impressed with them to begin with and its trust Zeiss optics over theirs any day of the week. In fact, I'm pretty sure I've seen Gunnars on the clearance rack at Frys.

To answer your question in the op, I don't think theres a significant market for these kind of glasses.

I'm an optician and actually deal with the glasses themselves, rather than the prescriptions. I will say that the opthalmic lenses are at least made by zeiss over here, just completely different division and nothing too special. Nikon, on the other hand, just licenses their name in the US.

Basically, gunnar optics use a special tint (which I can duplicate) and an antireflective coating (that I can get better quality) on a lens that does have a slight add (about +.50) to give you a little "help" up close. That extra add actually can cause some distortion as well, depending on what kind of Rx you have to begin with. Additionally, they use polycarbonate lenses, which suck in regards to optics.

Just seeing what the feedback is both here and a few other places, honestly.
