Sounds like Sprint to me. I'll bounce between 1X and 3G a lot.

You can try updating your radios, and you might get better service.

How do I do this?

Since AOSP (Cyanogenmod) doesn't have EPST code support, you have to flash back to a Sense based ROM to update your profile.

1. Download any Sense based ROM
2. Create a nandroid backup of your current setup
3. Flash the Sense-based ROM
4. Go to Settings > About Phone > Update (or something like that.
5. Once you are done updating profile and PRL, restore your nandroid backup.

And to flash,
if I have already made nandroid backup,

of the 3 choices, which ones do I pick?
Backup rom
wipe data & cache
wipe davlik

I don't understand.....you've already made your backup, so now you are trying to flash a new ROM? Wipe data and cache, and then flash the Sense ROM.

So don't do anything with the davlik cache?

No, just do a nandroid backup, then a full wipe in recovery, flash Sense ROM from recovery, update profile and PRL, go back into recovery and restore your nandroid backup.

is there a Sense ROM you recommend? of course the one I tried brought up the following error

"Amend scripting (update-script) is no longer supported.
Amend scripting was deprecated by Google in Android 1.5.
It was necessary to remove it when upgrading to the ClockworkMod 3.0 Gingerbread based recovery.
Please switch to Edify scripting (updater-script and update-binary) to create working update zip packages."

Did you make a Nandroid backup of your original Sense ROM after you rooted BEFORE you flash CM7?

if I didn't, do you have a link to the up to date stock ROM....what I tried to flash was what I thought was an up to date stock

and do you generally do deodexed or odexed files?

What Evo do you have?

Sense is a variety of ROM, as opposed to AOSP. Any sense based ROM will do. Don't worry about whether its deodex or odex since you are going to restore a CM ROM anyway.
