I got a free HDMI cord that says it is rated to 60hz. I didn't know they were rated for refresh rates. Will this cord be inappropriate for my plasma HDTV, which has a much higher refresh rate? In general do you need to select an HDMI cable based on refresh rates?

If you try to cram 120 or 240hz through a 60hz cord it will create pressure and eventually explode. Not worth the money you'd save. Think of your safety and get properly rated cords.

In spite of the labeling of that cable, there is no such thing as a 60 hz cable.

The electricity that comes out of the wall has a 60hz rate.

If your TV was 600Hz like many plasmas, the signal arriving at the TV from the DVD player is no different that if the TV had a 120Hz rate.

It is probably a cheap cable, but will probably do the job. If you see poor picture quality, throw it away and replace it with a $5 Monoprice cable.

To be serious: Get the cheapest cable you can... it's a digital signal man, it either works or it doesn't... there is no good, better, best when it comes to HDMI cables.

To have typical fun with the topic: Cheap HDMI cables have been known to give dogs and cats testicular cancer. Funny enough, Bob Barker actually endorses these cheap cables to "help control the pet population"!!!

I watch sports center a lot and had a 120hz cable. The updates at the bottom were blurry until I tried a 240hz cable. The difference for me was noticeable. They go as high as 640hz from what I've seen but I got what the tv was rated for.

I put my 60hz cable on my 60hz TV so I am golden.

I only use plasma shielded cables. That way if the sun gets to hot or if a solar flare hits the Earth I can still watch TV. You know Plasma shielded cables were made in the center of the sun where plasma comes from so you know they are tough.
