I have played the COD series for the past few years. I decided to pre-order BF3, but I have never played the BF series. Was this a wise decision?

There will be learning curve going from cod... But battlefield will be a better game... It's best when playing with friends who are in your squad

I'm an older gamer (40+), and I've read the BF series is more strategic than just running around knifing everyone in sight. True?

MW series is WWE and BF series in MMA.

Both have their fans.

MW is much more Michael Bay movie-esque then BF. BF plays more like a Tom Clancy novel..very strategic.

I am also a COD guy, who might be making the switch. In preparation for BF3 i got BF BC 2 on the computer and it is just overall kind of a different feel than COD. I think if you want an easier game where you can get a 2.0-4.0 K/d ratio, you go for MW3, if you want a little more diversity you go for BF 3. I'm not sure if i like the leveling up system in BF3 vs COD, but I haven't played much besides the beta. I will also severely miss kill streak bonuses.

BF really rewards a player for playing as part of a squad. You get points for healing your teammates and even more points for healing your squad mates. Same with providing ammo.

Don't forget vehicles!

I used to be a COD fan boy all the way...that is until I bought BFBC2. Haven't played COD since and I can't wait for BF3. Being an older gamer, you will not regret it. Good move!

Both are solid, and if the release dates were more separate I would get both, but having to choose one over the other, it's BF series all the way. Kill streaks are fun, but so is piloting vehicles and *huge* rush maps.

As the above said, if you are an "older" gamer, you'll enjoy BF more.

This is the same question I'm asking. I always played the hell out of Call of Duty games since the first Modern Warfare game, but the kiddies and hackers (I play PC) are getting old. I'm excited about this new one, but am keeping my ears open about BF3, but I've never played the series. I never enjoyed the Tom Clancy games, so is BF3 more towards the COD or TC side of shooters?

Also, I have a PS3, not a PC. BF3 still a good choice?

Too late for this, but you should have picked up Bad Company 2 to give it a try. Me and a few other guys on Texags picked up Bad Company 2 over the summer to see if BF was our cup of tea. I've played all of the COD games and put a couple of days, at least, of MP into each one(ashamed to say).

For me, I like BF a lot. I'm getting BF3 no question and will probably skip COD this year. I'm really sad that I have to chose because it's not that BF is better than COD... it's just something different. I just don't see me having time for both games (especially since I'm really digging Gears 3 and will still play that too).

BF3 is still a good choice. I played the beta and there was much less lag on the 24 player game vs the same size game on COD. This may be due to the new Frostbite 2 engine the game was designed on or just a smaller volume of players since it is just a beta

I LOVE this about the BF series - it promotes teamwork and you can be a contributing member to the team without being the best shot.

I never really have cared for games like Ghost Recon either, although I did enjoy Rainbow Six Vegas 2. IMO, the game doesn't play THAT slow by any means. When I played the campaign of Rainbow Six, I would SLOWLY have to creep around corners, die often, and have to restart. The BF:BC2 series played much more like CoD than that. The multiplayer can be pretty fast-paced too, if you want to play it that way, and isn't boring/super-slow by any means.
Also, as mentioned earlier, the vehicles add a whole new dimension to the game. Cruising around in a tank or helicopter with a buddy is awesome!

What others have said - two different styles of play.

I enjoy both and have pre-ordered them both as well. Biggest problem I have is the switched grenade buttons and knifing mechanics. I have to re-learn them every go-round.

Maybe MW just makes it too easy, but I hate BF3 or BF2's knifing mechanic compared to the COD games.

Also, the biggest reason I don't want to NOT get COD is the single player. I find the modern warfare single player to be awesome. MW1 was probably the best shooter single player I've ever played.

the only plus, in my book, for MW is the co-op stuff. I have not seen EA say anything about survival mode in BF

What to do, what to do...

I only played Black Ops for about 2 weeks when it was released and never touched it again, i might just be burned out on the CoD games. However, i know all of my friends will still be on CoD.

I've never played the Battlefield series but this new one looks pretty freakin sweet. I might actually be leaning toward BF3 at this point.

Ah, who am i kidding, i'll probably just end up getting them both.

I think all of the COD fanboys are debating this in their heads, and in the end we will get both.

Luckily BF3 comes out first, so I can try it out and if it blows me away I won't have to get MW3. If it was the reverse curiosity would force me to buy BF3 after getting MW3. I think it is definitely beneficial for BF3 sales to catch all the COD fanboys before MW3 comes out.

With the way the releases are set up, I would be VERY surprised if Gamestop didn't do a special BF buyback with credit towards MW.

In the end, I really think they are just two VERY different games, each with their own merits. Everything doesn't have to be a 1 vs. the other, e.g. Apple vs. PC, 360 vs. PS3. If you can afford it and have the time/patience for both of them, I don't see any problem with enjoying them both in their own regard.

Yeah that's just not how I play games. I devote my time to one game at a time for the most part.

at first i thought pshh BF3 who cares but i started to look into the gameplay and they are two VERY different games (MW3= seal team 6 runnin and gunnin and BF3= two opposing platoons) its fun to defeat your opponent in a hail of gunfire and grenade blasts (MW3) and by having a fellow teammate circling above in an Apache watching your a$$ (BF3). both are going to be excellent games

so long story short i will be getting both and splitting my time but probably spend more on MW3

splitting time= not getting board of any game

POWER TO THE PLAYERS

Thanks for all the replies. I feel much better about my decision. I'm not all that great of a player, but it's a hell of a way to relieve some stress. If anyone wants a n00b on their platoon, let me know.
