Which TV should I get? Samsunge is 1400 and the Sony is 1700

I've heard people say picture quality on the 3D is much better.

Are you asking about 2D picture quality?

Yes I'm sorry. For viewing 2D, is the picture better with a 3D TV and is it worth the jump in price?

When 3D was first released it generally only came on the high end TVs.

The 3D feature does not give any benefit to 2D performance however.

Adding 3d to a set will have a very minimal effect on the quality of 2d programming, if any, though i have read that it may actually boost it some.

Since every top end set has 3d and obviously since the best panels are put into the top sets the best 2d sets are going to be those with 3d capabilities. The picture isn't better because it has 3d but because all of the parts are better. That being said 3d has trickled down to the mid-range sets this year, especially in plasmas, which can have a pretty significant difference in quality over the low end sets.

2 different technologies. Neither has any bearing on the other.

Having 3D doesn't make the 2D images better. That said, when I went to buy a new set recently, I wanted the best panel I could get. That set only came in 3D. Ie, I believe all higher end models will have 3D by default. Higher end models will also give u better 2D performance. If you're so worried about picture performance, why are u buying an LCD?
