I was wondering if there is any way to take something from my U-Verse DVR (Aggie football games)and transfer it directly to my external hard drive so that I may burn it to DVD?

There are USB plug-ins on the TV as well as the DVR but when I plug it into the DVR, it is not recognized. Is this not possible or do I need to try something else???

If you can feed the output from you dvr to some kind of recording device like a VCR or a video input on a PC (which you don't have) then you can do it.

So you'll most likely need equipment you don't have. This is why I was never able to get you the Tech game from last year.

I don't know what I'm talking about.

Not possible. In fact, you can't even WATCH things you've DVR'd on the U-Verse box if it doesn't have an active connection. It phones home to make sure you're "authorized" to watch it. You'll have to take advantage of the analog hole if you want to get your content off of the U-Verse box.

Not sure what happens if you, say, record and HBO show and then cancel HBO service.

FYI - we DVR a lot of movies during the free HBO, etc. preview weekends and are able to watch the movies long after the preview ends.

Download the Opera browser.

Goto TenYardTorrents.com and download the games.

my understanding is that UVerse also encrypts and adds DRM to your recordings that can only be played/decrypted by your box as a copyright infringement protection.

if you record something on HBO then cancel the HBO channels in a month, you can still watch that recording ... i know from personal experience ...

MW03,

are you telling me from experience or do you know that for a fact?

It isn't possible. That's a fact.

You can't hook a harddrive up to the uverse box and have it work, and you can't transfer DVR files off of the DVR.

Not possible.

Our son bought us one of these for our uverse. Works great.

i haven't tried because i'm 99% sure it's fruitless.

your only option is to "steam" the information to your laptop/cpu and record off your laptop.

in other words, instead of running the DVR to your TV, you plug it in to your CPU provided that your CPU has the appropriate equipment to decode the signal. so instead of "transferring a file" from your DVR to your laptop, you are recording the playing file with your laptop in the same way you would have videotaped a TV show 20 years ago. Only the tech is different.

looked at what 1944 posted, and that might be an option for you if your CPU doesn't have the equipment. might be worth the $15 to check it out.

re what 1944 posted...would you have to have the pc near the tv?

and do you plug that into the tv or into the uverse dvr?

Can it be done with a DirecTV DVR?

1944,

is that what you used and were able to transfer? I am technologically inept and need a lot of help to get this done...

It is what we use and it works just great. Use it for VCR tapes to DVD as well. Only down side it you have to play the dvr recorded material in "real time" as opposed to just a fast transfer. Like you used to do to record a tv show with the vcr. Just play and record.

1944,

So I would need to get those cables then use them to connect the laptop to the tv or the dvr? What special software will I need to do this if needed?

Its comes with software. Son installed everything so I'm not sure how detailed it all is. Simple to operate though. If we want to record something off the dvr we plug it into the dvr and the other end into the computer. VHS-plug into the VCR, etc...

The quality off that analog hole is going to be really crappy. Why not just grab a torrent instead?

culdeus,

I tried to get torrent files from ten yard torrents but had some problems.

So I went there and registered. I then went to the forums for college football and found the game I wanted to download. I clicked the link that redirected me to a new page asking that I sign in. So I eneter my sign on info then get a message that username and password were not found... I then click on the register for new account and get the message: "The current user account limit (1) has been reached. Account creation has been suspended for the time being, please check back again later..."

Can anyone tell me what's going on there? Trust me, I have made sure the username and password were correct
