Just curious if anyone has been able to cancel a Dell order due to shipping delays... I ordered my wife a new desktop as a replacement for her current 4+ year old machine on 1/29 with a deliver date of 2/18 - 3 weeks was a bit much, but that was fine. Now it's already been delayed another week.

I was hoping to have it here in time for her birthday on the 20th and would rather just order a machine from Amazon or Newegg knowing it would be here in a few days, not weeks.

Anyone had success getting Dell to cancel an order?

Dell will cancel your order any time prior to shipment, no questions asked.

That being said, you can also call and see if they can tell you what part is holding up the order. For example, if you ordered a particular video card or specific sized hard drive, sometimes they can change that one piece and get the machine into production. A month is very unusual for a Dell to be delivered. I order a dozen a month or so, and desktops typically take a week and laptops around 10 days. (This has increased since the release of Windows 7 btw.)

You might also try looking at their "Fast Track" configs - which ship in 24 hours.

Good luck!

$20 says it gets delayed again!

Everyone I know who has bought a Dell in the last couple years has gone through delays and more delays. If you were getting a laptop I would say cancel the Dell order and go get yourself a Lenovo. You would probably get it by the end of the week.

Just cancel it. Their delays have gotten worse the last few years. I bought a laptop 4 years ago from them, got it very quickly. Since then, I've ordered 3 more for other people and all 3 have been delayed multiple times. They simply are not worth the extra cost and hassle with the delays.

I recently ordered two 23" monitors that were on sale. They were delayed twice and Dell called me to ask if I still wanted to proceed with the order. I talked to the rep and asked her if they had any that were actually in stock. She found me 2 24" monitors that were 10 dollars more that were in stock. I cancelled the first order and she gave me free 2nd day shipping. That was on a Tue evening. She told me that they would ship that Thurs and I would get them on Monday. They actually shipped Wed and I had them Friday. I love the monitors. When ordering from Dell always find out if they have things in stock. If any parts are not in stock they are having long delays.

The last 4 desktops I've ordered have come from the Outlet. They ship next day and you 'typically' get a good bargain. Just make sure to configure it against the new version.

If you google 'dell outlet promotion code' you can usually get a 15-20% off coupon.

yup - just went through the delay, then delay again process for a PC i got for my folks. took almost a month and a half for it to show up.

they'll cancel it if you tell them to (and i would recommend doing so). any more than 2 wks for ANY computer is ridiculous.

Thanks for the info everyone.

I cancelled the Dell order this morning and ordered a nice HP from Amazon (with double the ram at 8GB and double the HD at 1TB for about $100 more) and it'll be here on Wednesday.

Think I'll just skip Dell from here on out - can't believe they're still in business if their service and delivery times are half as bad as I've been reading.

I bought a Studio XPS something or another with a 20" monitor for $600-ish... It died. They sent a service tech to my house 3 times.

Sent a replacement with an i5 cpu instead of an i7. I called 3 times and fought with customer service for about 5 hours total.

Now they are sending me a $1200 Studio XPS 9000 this time with the i7 cpu.

I don't know how much money they spent to try to win me back as a customer and I'm still not going to buy another Dell.

If they just sent a machine that matched the specs of the original system I would have been thrilled. Having to fight a bunch of Customer Service Indians to get a machine with the same specs was like pulling teeth. Going on 3 months since I make the first call to tech support.

It seems like they own the company issued computer market. Just about every client or vendor I work with has a Dell. Probably 90% of the people I see working in airports and on planes are also on a Dell.
