How long do you want to ignore this user?
I am trying to connect to the tamu VPN using the built in windows 7 vpn client. It does not connect for me.

Am I confused here? I thought that the tamu VPN settings were as follows:
vpn-master.tamu.edu
user: netid
pass: netid Password

I have gotten this connection to work before, but I recently reinstalled my os.

Any help would be appreciated.

no win7 support yet. one of the more annoying things that CIS needs to take care of.

I don't see why there would be any issue with using the built-in VPN client to connect. However, if you can't get it working, use this client: http://sourceforge.net/projects/vpncfe/

I have been using the built in VPN on my Win 7 machines. Check to make sure your NetID is not expired or something of that nature.

The connection works from my lab on campus when I'm connected with an ethernet cable. simple settings - vpn-master.tamu.edu and netid user/pass. It just doesn't work from any other place.

You should have mentioned that in your first post.

Chances are that when you're plugged in via Ethernet you're not actually connected to the VPN. If you're already connected to the on campus network, you shouldn't need the VPN I don't believe, to access the campus network. Either that or it's simply connecting because you're already on the network.

The built-in Windows VPN client doesn't always work right and isn't compatible with many VPN's from my experience.

Did you try using the VPNC client like I mentioned earlier? Full instructions here: http://hdc.tamu.edu/reference/documentation/?section_id=892

Got it figured out. Looks like it was having a hard time resolving the ip address of vpn-master.tamu.edu.

I typed in the actual ip (165.91.140.250) and that got it working perfectly.

Thanks for all the replies.

(summary of settings)
Host name: 165.91.140.250
User: NetID
Pass: NetID Password
