Not going to sell the game copies with them obviously, but it's obviously going to boot unlike a regular PS2 -- is there anyplace you can sell these? I don't even see any Craigslist ads for them.

Modding any console is against the DMCA anti-copy protection provisions.

The mod chip itself isn't the illegal thing, it's the BIOS that's on the chip that counters the copy protection mechanism of the PS2 and the games.

In order to be legal, you need to wipe the BIOS from the mod chip and sell it as a blank mod chip. If you sell it with the BIOS still on the chip, and then sell it out of state, you could be committing mail fraud, which is a federal crime, and conspiracy (with your buyer) to trade illegal goods.

So what you're saying is trying to sell it online is more trouble than it's worth?

just thinking outloud here...

what if he were to wipe out the bios and ship it blank and email the buyer a weblink (not his own website) to the bios with instructions on how to install the hacked bios...

of course all a hypothetical situation...
