Sean McDermott becomes the 10th coach fired this season. He joins Mike Tomlin in getting fired after a playoff loss, but he is the only fired coach who won a playoff game.

The Buffalo Bills fired head coach Sean McDermott on Monday after another season that failed to end in a Super Bowl appearance, but the team promoted Brandon Beane to president of football operations.

"Sean has done an admiral job of leading our football team for the past 9 seasons," owner Terry Pegula said in a statement. "But I feel we are in need of a new structure within our leadership to give this organization the best opportunity to take our team to the next level. We owe that to our players and to Bills Mafia."

The loss to the Broncos continued the Bills' streak of not reaching the Super Bowl since losing four straight from 1990 to 1993. And it extended their record of the most wins in a seven-season span without a Super Bowl appearance, including playoffs (91).

Since 2019, the Bills have the most wins in a seven-season stretch without a Super Bowl appearance, including playoffs. The Bills became the fourth team in the Super Bowl era to win a playoff game in six straight seasons; the previous three all won Super Bowls in those spans.

Giants have an elite WR and a future top 10 QB and a star RB

Easily the best job for a quick turnaround

gone is the awful coach - expect a Chi or NE type turnaround next year

Not so sure the Giants have as rosy an outlook as you're painting. Dart is an interesting prospect and might be great, but being a future 10 QB is far from a lock.

Bills interviewing Philip Rivers for coaching job, sources say
https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/47706170/bills-interviewing-philip-rivers-coaching-job-sources-say

This feels like a stunt move that some perennial 5-12 team would pull. Not a team with the best offensive player in the league.

McCarthy means another year of Rodgers, which while not bad also isn't good. Continuing to punt on finding a franchise qb.

But at least it's not Flores.

Didn't Rodgers fire McCarthy in Green Bay?

Yes, there was a nasty split between Rodgers and McCarthy in 2018.

Rodgers has also apparently said he'd come back if Pittsburgh hired McCarthy so whatever happened in Gb appears to be squashed. Such a dumb and short sighted decision. Bound to stay not good enough to win a title and not bad enough to rebuild.

the Steelers had easily one of the worst offenses in the NFL under Tomlin the last decade or so

49ers OC Klay Kubiak has removed himself from consideration for the Las Vegas and Pittsburgh jobs.

If he was a serious candidate, what does that say about those jobs?

Vegas I can understand - they've been varying degrees of mess since they booted Gruden way back when.

But isn't Pittsburgh supposed to be one of the best jobs in the league? Although they're kind of stuck in QB purgatory - they might have Rodgers next year, who knows, maybe two, but he's been flakey about how much longer he wants to play. And they're not bad enough to be picking at the top of the draft to get a top QB prospect.

They just need to tank for a couple years. Nothing sucks more than 8-8 every year. Trade for picks and look to the future.

Mike McCarthy and Aaron Rodgers for another year is just extending the inevitable. Won't be good enough to win or bad enough to rebuild. ****ing purgatory.

Sounds like the Steelers might be interested in taking a young QB who was really good in 2023 and then humiliated himself a week ago.

so Mike McDonald gets the Seahawks to the Super Bowl in his second season as a head coach

turns out he was the right (first-time) coach to hire in the coaching carousel 2 years ago

also shows why teams need to sack their long-time stale coaches...and quit hanging onto them for so long
