At this point, yes. There's a reason the Texans paid WAJ but not CJ this offseason. If CJ was just subpar to mediocre in the playoffs we would've made the Super Bowl. He has regressed each year.

That said, he can still turn it around this year and I hope he does. But he definitely has a lot to prove.

So I should rely on your analysis? Got it…

Respectfully I'd just say rely on your own eye test. we all want cj to succeed but to defend his play last year is pretty wild
Im looking for Ray Finkle.... and a clean pair of shorts. Im just a very big Finkle fan. This is my Graceland, sir.

This is kinda where I'm at. Anyone here who has ever played football, especially on the offensive side of the ball, can see the warts.

CJ play like dog crap last year relative to his talent. The offensive line and running game were also not good. Both can be true.
I know a lot about a little, and a little about a lot.

The Texans will earn the No. 1 seed in the AFC and go to their first Super Bowl
You know about their defense, which is one of the two or three best in the NFL. The offense made improvements on the offensive line; the addition of running back David Montgomery and the return of wide receiver Tank Dell (knee) should move them up above the league average. -- Aaron Schatz, NFL analyst

I've seen a lot of people saying the same

Pretty sure everyone said that last year and then CJ went out and threw 18 INTs in the worst start a QB has ever had.

I learned years ago to stop taking this kinda bait.

I had to think about when the last time I saw a healthy Tank Dell play. I think it was in 2020 at UH. he's super fun to watch but just too little to make it in the league long-term.

See all kinds of pictures of him online and his legs are so small. His legs look like those of an ehtiopian refugee.

Easterby was fired in October 2022 -- 3 years and 9 months ago

and while the franchise has improved since then...it's still division round fodder

wouldn't talk too much trash

Easterby should be hailed as one of the greatest con men of the 21st century.

The most chilling sentence you'll ever read on Wikipedia is "Easterby, along with coach and general manager Bill O'Brien, worked to overhaul the roster with Easterby handling the contract negotiations."

He got that job responsibility while his role was "character coach" and his degree is in theology.

A truly bizarre chapter. None of it makes any sense whatsoever.

It makes perfect sense when you realize BoB was actively trying to get fired so he could make his way back to NE.

He pitched handling contracts to the McNairs as a natural fit with his other "c" related work as character coach and church coach.

There were zero adults in the room.

At least BoB has come out and admitted that taking on the GM role was a colossal mistake. He thought he could be like his idol, Belichick. The amount of foolishness in this organization after Rick Smith left was astounding.

I'm glad we're in a better place.

The Post BOB era is about to produce the Texans first Super Bowl appearance. The NFLs best defense plus a new and improved offense will get us a top 2 seed in the AFC and hopefully all playoff games at home.

Did we trade CJ Stroud and I missed it?

Stroud deserves a lot of flak for that playoff game, but Nico was also out that game and our O-line appears to be improved quite a bit.

I'm hopeful he can return to his rookie form.

He had 5 fumbles against the Steelers, losing 3 of them and throwing a pick. Only Aaron Rodgers being 300 years old and the Texans' defense saved that game.

Then he threw 4 interceptions against the Patriots.

It wasn't "that game", it was "that post-season."

I know he was cleared to play but CJ never looked right after his concussion. I'm hopeful the offseason has given him a chance to clear his head and maybe he will look more like the guy we saw in his first couple seasons. At least, that's what I'm telling myself.

Heard this on the radio hypothetical and couldn't agree more…

Baker mayfield on this team and defense probably in the superbowl.

He becomes a free agent after this year and I think he'd be a great fit.
JCA1
How long do you want to ignore this user?
AG
This team is built to win now so it's definitely a make-or-break year for CJ. If he doesn't play better, I don't see how you can extend him. You gotta let him go and either go after someone like Baker in free agency or see if you can put together a trade for someone. But you can't waste the next 3-4 years waiting on CJ.

Any of you peep the video of CJ reporting for camp looking like your average run of the mill teenager who just rolled off mom and dad's couch after a summer full of downing Kool-Aid, cheese puffs, and gushers while watching TRL?

Did he gain weight or is it just the clothes?

I also never realized he has a bit of an out-toe/duck foot to his walk...

Maybe a small thing, maybe not, but Tank Dell not starting the season on PUP is a good sign. In addition to the concussion situation I think not having Tank on the field impacted CJ. I'm optimistic that an improved o-line and having Tank back on the field are both factors to a hopefully improved 2026 season.

Gotta love the hopium. I want to believe.

CJ is what he is at this point. A turnover prone QB who will have flashes but one who can't process a D quick enough and will struggle against any average to above average D. I honestly think he had a good first year and just hasn't put in the work required to be a successful NFL QB

We have to win by putting an elite D on the field and trying to surround CJ with a lot of weapons and a solid line so that even he can't screw it up in the playoffs. Thats our recipe right now.
