It's the end of a largely disappointing era. The New York Giants released quarterback Daniel Jones on Friday, granting his request to be cut following his benching this week. The sixth overall pick of the 2019 NFL draft, Jones was never really what the Giants hoped he'd be when they made him the successor to Eli Manning.

Over six seasons, he threw 70 touchdown passes and 47 interceptions, and his 53 QBR ranks 28th in the NFL since he entered the league. Jones never posted a winning record in New York save for the 2022 season (9-7-1) that got him paid, and he now leaves the Giants as a 28-year-old reclamation project.

While the ceiling on Jones is fairly limited, I actually like the idea of him as a reclamation project. There's a chance Jones has an acceptable finish to his career in the league; in fact, there's a good shot he gets another season or two as a starter. But which teams could make sense, and will the next opportunity come this season or next year? Let's look at why Jones still has an NFL future and pick out five potential team fits for his next stop.

A franchise that cut ties with a bad decision and moved on. Wish the cowboys would do that

Well, I for one am not weeping to not have to watch Daniel Jones and the Giants on a national TV game ever again.

There have been a surprising number of quarterbacks that appeared to be busts that are now playing quite well for teams that didn't draft them, and in several cases, a 2nd or 3rd team that passed on them.

Geno Smith
Baker
Jared Goff
Sam Darnold

I'm not even counting this group that has found some success in new locations because I can't tell if they are actually playing well:
Derek Carr
Kirk Cousins
Russell Wilson

If I'm advising Daniel Jones, I'm suggesting he goes somewhere that develops QBs, like KC, and not just some place he can get a starting job. I don't think NY has a good FO, and I don't think that franchise has had talent there for quite a while.

The saints aren't a terrible spot to land.
Panthers actually have a good offensive line.
Dolphins make the most sense to add him this season if they put together a playoff run

As a Giants fan, it has been a tough 6 years. Seeing him drafted in the shadow of Eli (who was an average qb who had two good runs), it was a tough path to follow as every Giant fan expected instant success. Many Giant fans have a warped vision of Eli...his overall winning percentage is .500. There is not an example that does not say 'average' more than that.

Daniel Jones was not the only problem. Yes, at that salary, he is ripe for blame, and he does need to shoulder some of it. But the Giants have had four average coaches over the last 10 years (similar to A&M?). None of their coaches develop players, they go elsewhere to succeed (Barkely). They have had miserable luck with injuries (most injured team for two consecutive years). They have done poorly in almost every draft, missing on very good players (Josh Allen and Micah Parsons to name two) while choosing players who usually end up out of the league or elsewhere in just a few years. Now that Jones is gone, I believe the most veteran player has only been there four years.

I have lost confidence in the front office and coaching staff. I think we are in for several more years of wandering in the desert of the loss column. I don't know who can come in and fix this mess. An amazing qb? This year's draft is really thin on quality qb prospects... Another coach and GM?

Daniel Jones is a good guy. I wish him luck. I doubt he will be a star, maybe a backup? But the Giants and their idiot fans need to look at the many other issues other than just their qb.
