Why the heck don't they show the late afternoon games? (Unless it's the Cowboys.)

There are people who are fans of West Coast teams who live in Texas.

Not sure if serious or not....but the NFL divvies up "double header days" between CBS and FOX for the season. Some weeks FOX has games in both time slots, some weeks it's CBS. Your local can pick which games it wants, except for the home team.

This week, FOX only had a single slot...you can see how their games were broadcast here:

As has been said, these are NFL rules. In addition to the doubleheader on one network and single game on the other, primary markets always show their team, and cannot show another game in the same timeslot. For example, today Houston got the NE/SF late game on Fox, whereas the rest of Texas got Philly/Tampa Bay.

The Cowboys and Texans often both play in the early time slot. If you want to flip between them, you better be somewhere else besides Dallas or Houston. And a specific note for BCS: our Fox station is a repeater of the Waco feed, but our CBS affiliate is an independent station (same ownership, but they occasionally show different games).

NFL TV related question:

These MNF "double headers" or whatever they are that broadcast on ABC/ESPN.

I don't understand why they don't always have a West Coast team playing and start the game 90 minutes or so later.

Last week:
Jax at Buffalo
Wash at Cinci

At least 3 of those teams are Eastern time zone, and I think all 4. One game started at 7:30, the other at 8 or so.

This week:
Tenn @ Miami (6:30)
Seattle @ Detroit.. (7:15)
At least there is a West Coast game, but why start them 45 minutes apart?

Week 7:
Baltimore at Bucs (7:15 start)
Chargers at Arizona (7:45 start).

At least the pairing makes sense, but the 2nd start time does not.

Week 15
Bears at Vikings (7:00)
Falcons at Raiders (7:30)

These start times do not make any sense.

Start times for MNF are a Catch-22. If the start time is too early, folks on the West Coast are still getting home from work, so you miss that chunk of the audience at the start of the game.

Start too late, and the game is ending well past midnight on the East Coast, and you lose a big chunk of your audience because they need to go to bed.

If you staggered the start times by 90 minutes, for one of those games, you're giving up on a huge chunk of audience for at least half the game.

7 pm Central start is 8 pm Eastern, 5 Pacific. Staggering the second game by 90 minutes off that would mean either a 9:30 pm start on the East Coast if you go later, or 3:30 Pacific if you go earlier.

IMO, the sweet spot, time zone wise is Mountain time. Which, of course, is the least populous time zone in the lower 48.

Do you think Fox Sports just doesn't want show afternoon games?

Is this your first year watching NFL?

Just get red zone. No commercials and for the late window you are only bouncing around a couple games

But that doesn't explain why they don't at least always stagger the two MNF games with more time between the 2 games.

It makes the most sense to do 2 Eastern Time Zone teams in the first time game, and at least 1 Pacific time zone (or mountain) as the host team for the 2nd game, but stagger the starts by more than an hour, not 30 minutes.

This past week they started Tenn at Miami at 6:30, and that makes sense, but the 2nd game starts 45 minutes later. The next week they don't start first game until 7:15 and then the 2nd game starts just 30 minutes later.

On the 2 game nights, start the first game at 6:30 and 2nd game at 7:45. A large chunk of the audience would watch as much of both games as possible.

Everything y'all are saying leads to this: It doesn't make sense to have two Monday night games. I don't know why they do it or what Disney pays for it, but it's too much.

Actually the cowboys only had one noon game last year. And only four this year (the last game is currently TBD so might be a 5th).
