Because the earlier you know how many times you have to score the better, and it changes how you manage the game. If you're betting on getting 8 points the last time you score, if there's very little time left game is over if you don't convert. If you do it the first time you score and miss, you know you need an additional possession early enough to get it.

The data clearly shows teams down by 15 or 22 come back more often when they go for two early.

The "go for 2" statistics you are citing are silly. They evaluate millions of scenarios.

But they forgot one variable. The Cowboys stink at two point conversions.

Well, we know it didn't work in this game.

The same people who didn't want to go for 2 were the ones thinking we should have kneeled it in our last possession before the fumble last night.

Win or lose, this game is the perfect example of why you go for 2 early to know what you need. Do the Cowboys seem any less energetic? This crowd?

The entire idea the "don't go for 2 until you have to" side leans on is that if you don't get it the team will be deflated.
