Trade Dak for first pick in draft?

I've read where Caleb Williams has said he would consider coming back to USC next year rather than get drafted by an organization that is a mess. And most of the teams likely to get the first pick qualify. He had a list of teams that he would play for that included the Cowboys.

If you're Jerry, would you consider calling that team with the first pick and offering Dak and some package of picks and players for the first pick overall? Maybe Dak, Tyler Smith, and another first (or two)…in exchange for the first pick to take Caleb?

If you're the team with that first pick…would you consider?

It would be a big haul of talent, and an established and proven QB and would let them avoid a messy situation with having the clear best player in the draft turn you down. It sounds like the Bears need public support for a new stadium deal, and a player like Dak along with a good coaching hire (Dan Quinn) could turn them around pretty fast.

No team would make that trade. Except the Cowboys.

Of course you would trade Dak for Williams

one of the curses of the modern day NFL...

must choose wisely with the second contract to your QB

have to be stingy when your QB is a good one -- but not a great one

Change the title to "Trade Micah for first pick", then maybe it's worth musing over.

I can't see any team giving a first for a guy who just turned 30, who is about to be a 60 million cap hit in the last year of his contract. And on top of it, gets rattled in big games.

If they want a guy like Caleb, it's going to take multiple years' of firsts to go get him.

Dak would only rate a second, third, and maybe a couple of late round picks. The delusion that Cowboy fans suffer from in regards to Dak is such a head-scratcher. He's not very good.

I know. I think most of the cowboys thread has me on ignore bc they can't handle that truth.

Last nights game didn't help my scenario at all!

But I was thinking if the team with the first pick is one that Caleb refuses to play for, it would be more like they were giving up on Drake Maye or someone, since they aren't getting Caleb anyway.

And yeah, it would need to be Dak and multiple firsts and more. For Caleb, I'd toss in Parsons I think also.

The Cowboys would have to go reverse Herschel Walker to get Caleb Williams at this point.

I'd trade Micah and Dak straight up to get Williams. The right QB is more important in today's NFL than one monster edge rusher. Parsons is one of the best in the league but I'd rather have a QB who is probably going to be elite for the next 6-8 years over a defensive MVP.

I won't give up Diggs or Parsons. That's the heart and soul of the team.

They can have everything else for Williams.

Yes, Dallas needs to trade Dak Prescott. I'm not a GM so I won't pretend and propose a trade. I'm a Dallas sports fan but not a Cowboys fan. I do think the NFL is more entertaining when the Cowboys are good.

You're looking at a franchise that hasn't played in an NFC championship game in nearly 30 years. They spent Romo's entire career trying to force the issue and are doing the same with Prescott. At some point you have to hit the reset button and they shouldn't wait until he retires to do so.

Trade Dak to the 49ers for that pick we gave for Trey Lance.
Start Trey Lance.
Hire Bobby Petrino to run the offense.
Win the Super Bowl.

Dak was a 4th rounder and might be worth a 3 at this point. Carolina, Denver, NYG, NE, Arizona probably the top 5 pickers. All 5 would take Williams and none would want dak. Carolina and Arizona have tiny QBs and may want upgrades. I'm guessing Williams would gladly play for NE or NYG.

Let's play a different game... What starting QB wouldn't you trade Dak for?

Mac Jones
Baker Mayfield
Brock Purdy
Jordan Love
Derek Carr
Jared Goff
Justin Fields
Jimmy Garapolo

Of that list I'd straight trade for Baker, Brock, Goff, and Fields. I think Goff and Brock are better, Fields is a flyer, and I just root for Baker

None of those QBs are better than Dak and would work for the cowboys
Purdy only bc he makes 800k
Won't be worth a damn when he gets paid 45 million in 2 years

SF has shown the entire league the blueprint for success…..a QB on a rookie deal. I will bet you, they aren't signing Brock to a big deal in two years. They will get another cheap QB and surround him with all-pros

If he keeps developing, they will.

Its the blueprint for sure.
- Build a team that is full of talent at every position
- Draft a QB that you think can run your system.
- Allow QB to develop while distributing the ball to phenomenal talent and a great defense to fall back on.
- QB becomes comfortable and competent running yoru system.
- Decrease talent around the QB to pay QB more while still relying on a great defense.
- Retire as Tom Brady.

I'm anxiously waiting for the first team to start treating QBs like RBs and just recycles in the draft every few years. Just imagine how good the rest of the team would be with a rookie QB all the time. You could draft 2 QBs per year, and you only need to find a decent one every few years. Even with the loss of draft capital you'd still be a way better team everywhere else

the problem is that its extremely difficult to find good QBs and not that hard to find someone who can run with it.

Good QBs are not hard to find
Its great and elite QBs that are hard if not impossible to find

If you have a loaded roster and QB friendly system - then this plan works- San Fran and Seattle proving it right now

After Murray and Mayfield, I'm leery of Lincoln Riley's QBs. Maybe they're a product of the system.

I would still draft Williams with the first pick, though.

You might find a diamond in the rough or get lucky every decade or so but I think the list above shows how difficult it is to win a Super Bowl without an elite QB.

Tom Brady not elite first SB
Manning Not elite could barely throw 2nd SB
Eli avg QB 2 SB
Aikman Not elite 3 SB
Bradshaw Not elite
Russ Wilson not elite First SB
Brad Johnson avg QB
Trent Dilfer
Joe Flacco
Doug Williams

Quite a few not elite QBs just off the top of my head

That's what I keep telling everyone when they say we'll never win a Superbowl with Dak. Dak is a hell of a lot better than a lot of QBs who have won Superbowls.

I did not say only elite QBs win Super Bowls. I said non-elite SB-winning QBs are outliers, as far more top tier QBs have won, which makes sense on its face - elite QBs SHOULD win more Super Bowls, that's part of the entire composition of what makes them elite. If Dak were to lead the Cowboys to a SB win, he would be one of the outliers to win one, not a member of the elite class of QBs who have one one or multiple. Dak is not an elite QB.

I'll be sure to keep on holding on for who made 25% of the cap as a ****ty QB and won a Super Bowl.

Dak isn't a sheety QB so that is a Stoopid premise to start with

But Manning his last year couldn't throw the ball 20 yards and took up 25 percent of the cap
