Hey y'all,

My league voted to do an auction draft this year and it's our first time as a league (and mine) to do so.

Are there any cheat sheets or spreadsheets (i.e., Beersheets) that y'all recommend? I'm not really sure how to prep for this one properly. Draft is next Sunday.

Thanks!

My league does half auction and half snake draft so not exactly the same but I do have some pointers. Most cheat sheets have an "auction" function similar to ppr or standard. Rather than showing ADP it will display an anticipated auction value. I do not recommend using these values as your ultimate decision maker because each league drafts differently. For example, my league mates do not emphasize quarterbacks like some other leagues do and the quarterbacks typically go cheaper than their expected value.

I typically target a couple of guys I really want and sometimes even have one or two "buy no matter what guys." Get a feel for the amounts guys are going for. If wide receivers are flying off the board at expensive prices, the running backs may be cheaper.

Best piece of advice I can give you is do not sit back and wait for bargain deals for too long. Doing so will have you overpaying for 2nd and 3rd tier players. Get a feel for the draft and don't panic.

Auction drafts are a blast. Good luck!

Auction drafts are exhilarating. Welcome to the best way to draft! Enjoy it.

Here's some good advice I heard recently that I liked, even though I've done auctions for years. Monitor what the #1 ranked or so RB/WR/QB each go for, and that will give you a good gauge of what others are going to spend up for on the top tier group at each position.

E.G. if CMC goes for $80, you can expect the other elite RBs to all go in the $70+ range.

Stars and scrubs is a popular auction draft strategy. Unlike a snake draft, you can pay up for whoever you want and can frontload your roster then fill it out with cheaper picks.

If it's not a superflex league, most money will be on RB/WR/elite TEs. What is the league format and how deep are the rosters?

Adding: Something I do that annoys some people in the league but they got over it. IMO, it is not worth it to spend up on K and D/ST. I nominate whatever the top K and D/ST are for $1 until I end up with one.

1. It allows other teams to blow precious $$ on these positions. You get a leg up in later rounds potentially and can 1-up them for whatever player you want when they're stuck with max bids of $1.

2. You almost always will end up with a pre-season ranked top 5 K and D/ST, as there are only a few that people actively pay up for every year.
