Why did you draft Watson if you have mahomes already? You're never going to start Watson unless you trade mahomes or he gets hurt

I did that the year Brady went down for the season in the first quarter of the first game. Kept trying to stream QBs. That league pretty much everyone carries 2 QBs, so was a pain. So my strategy is to take at least two decent QBs. Injuries/concussions happen. Especially late in the season around playoff time. QBs also seem to have so much more value than the old days. Yes I have won leagues doing this, I don't necessarily recommend, just takes some of the anxiety out for me personally. Now I've never had Mahomes before, so theres that.

Strength of schedule is near meaningless at this point in the year, especially from a fantasy perspective.

I've got the third overall pick in my league assuming Jefferson and Chase go 1 and 2 should I go McCaffery or Ekler

if I look at any factor it's how good the opposing offense is rather than D, if my QB tosses couple desperation pick 6s then all the better

picked up a couple of shares of Mostert in my last 2 drafts

he will get hurt at some point, but seems like a good flex play to start the year

Feel like my league got scared of a couple of guys. I picked up Jonathan Taylor in the 7th round and Kamara in the 8th round.

If I can just win a game or two the first 4 weeks of the season, then I could be golden come week 5.

Draft results from one of my two leagues:

Family and Friends league - Yahoo 8 team 0.5 PPR, 6pt passing TD, start QB/RB/RB/WR/WR/WR/Flex/DST/K, 4 bench slots and 1 IR slot, no TE this year, though one can be played in the Flex (yeah I know, this one's for the LOL's...my 14 team Work league draft is on Wednesday and is a much more competitive league).
Snake draft with random draft order, lucked out and got the 1st overall pick.

QB - T. Tagovailoa (Round 10)
RB - R. Stevenson (5), J. Dobbins (6), B. Hall (7), J. Cook (8), J. Taylor (9), A. Kamara (12)
WR - J. Jefferson (1), G. Wilson (2), A. St. Brown (3), C. Olave (4), S. Moore (11)
DST - Baltimore (13)
K - TBD

Went WR first 4 rounds to fill the 3 WR + 1 Flex slot. Took a flier on Skyy Moore as a potential WR1 in KC and Bye week replacement. All of my WRs have different Bye weeks so I shouldn't have to make any WR roster changes unless there is an injury or Skyy Moore doesn't pan out.

Hit RB hard after filling out my starting WRs and will take the first few weeks to see which RBs pan out. Put Taylor on IR and have a waiver claim on a Kicker (since I drafted 1st, I am last in waiver priority to start the season anyway, so no loss in burning a waiver claim before Week 1).

Without Kelce available, I saw no need to add a TE, nor any need to add a backup QB as with only 8 teams there will be options on the wire. If Tua doesn't pan out/get hurt, I can easily go get someone like Cousins, Richardson, Carr, Howell, etc.

My advice if you are in a short league like this, try to increase the league to 10 teams, otherwise it ends up being kind of goofy (my sister is the commish and she was able to add a couple of new teams this year, but two other players dropped out late so we still ended up with 8 teams). If you do play in a short league, make the proper adjustments to your draft strategy and keep in mind that you will have a much more robust waiver wire during the season than a larger league.

Both teams are solid. If JT and the Colts can resolve their differences, or he gets traded to a good situation, your team will be in a really good position to vie for the championship.

Also, if Year 2 Skyy Moore can become close to what Tyreek Hill was in KC (note that Tyreek was a 5th round pick from a D2 school), you have a league winner.

as an aside...didn't realize what a soft schedule the Saints play this year

so many games vs. rookie or bad QB's

Trevor Lawrence is the best QB they will face. Followed by Cousins and then Goff or Stafford

Jaylen Warren went undrafted surprisingly in my league and I'd like to scoop him up but not sure who I should drop. Bench is Jahan Dotson Deandre Swift Juju Nico Collins Tyler Allgier and Dalton Schulz any thoughts?

Jaylen Warren is behind a healthy Najee Harris on a bad offense. I don't see why Warren would be the goal line back so he is essentially just a injury handcuff.

That said I don't know what point Nico Collins serves on your roster bench spot. That guy isn't going to breakout and be a top 30WR this season. You won't need him to spot start because of byes or injuries (Juju or Dotson would be those guys). Maybe take a flier on a Tutu Atwell or Puka in the WR Rams room. If Kupp stays sidelined one of those guys could become a starter and have good early week value and maybe you can flip them in the future.

Swapped Antonio Gibson and Skyy Moore for Javonte Williams to help my RB room out a bit...team is now:
QB: Herbert
RB1: JK Dobbins
RB2: Javonte
WR1: Jjettas
WR2: Keenan
TE: MAndrews
FLEX: Drake London
FLEX: Brandon Aiyuk
K: Empty rn
DST: Washington

Bench/IR: Jahan Dotson, Jordan Addison, Rashod Bateman, Rashaad Penny, Zack Moss, CEH, Jonathan Taylor, Jeff Wilson Jr.

I feel a bit better about my RBs now; hoping and praying JT comes back.

Have you heard anything on Drake London that gives any confidence he will actually get it going this season? Riddler as his QB scares me away from him. This is genuine ignorance on my part / hurt from being burned by him last season.

It is pretty common for elite WR prospects to breakout in their second year, so I wanted to take shots on a few guys (him, Dotson, Bateman is basically a second year). I was really hoping for Garrett Wilson, but he didn't fall to me at my second pick.

He is massive and was considered to be an elite prospect, he saw 2.5 more targets per game with Ridder under center. Pitts's route participation last year was pretty low, so I expect London to be the focal point of their passing game. I also think Ridder will be a bit better for London's fantasy output than Mariota was last year...he should run a bit less, and who knows, he may actually be competent.

I got both in the 8th rds of my 2 drafts

latest I've seen JT fall yet (though it was PPR), Akers/Sanders/KHerbert were the only other options that stood out by then, but already had Jacobs/Rhamondre/AJones so could could afford to invest the wait

took Kamara over KHerbert/Montgomery/Swift/White, stashing behind Chubb/Barkley/Rhamondre

week 1 defenses to take a gander at, even if you drafted a different defense, these ones were undrafted in a lot of leagues:

WAS plays at home vs what I expect to be a pitiful AZ squad
JAX plays @ Indy, where JT is out and the rookie QB might be a good fantasy stash for running TD purposes, but I expect will throw a lot of INTs this year.
ATL plays at home vs a rookie QB, although ATL's Def is not good
MIN plays at home vs Baker Mayfield
SEA plays at home vs a Rams squad quite possibly without Kupp and lacking weapons altogether

how'd I do? 10 team PPR. #1 pick.

1.01: Jefferson
2.10: Garrett Wilson - really lucky someone grabbed Mahomes at 19 so this could happen; didn't think it would
3.01: Olave - i thought this was too early to take one of the other two remaining big three QBs. Rhamondre or Etienne might have been a reach at #21 overall
4.10: Miles Sanders. waiting until 40 and 41 for rbs after going wr, wr, wr, had to reach here. Pierce was taken right before this. still, an RB1 paid a lot of $$ and has a rookie QB = volume
5.01: Alex Mattison. waiting until 40 and 41 for rbs after going wr, wr, wr, had to reach here. still, an RB1 might get Dalvin type of volume
6.10: DeAndre Hopkins- aging but still an elite route runner with really sticky hands & should be #1 target in TEN
7.01: Trevor Lawrence. seven QBs already taken. felt like it was time for best avail.
8.10: Khalil Herbert - need to load up on some RBs since I waited until 40 and 41 so took two more at 80 and 81. Need someone to hit!
9.01: Javontae Williams - same as above.
10.10: Freiermuth
11.01: Charbonnet - took someone's handcuff. a 2nd rd draft pick and Walker didn't make it through last season unscathed.
12.10: Anthony Richardson - stash. let's see how this dude runs. Without JT, will he be running in many TDs?
13.01: LaPorta - high powered throwing offense. high draft pick. no other good TEs rostered. WR2 suspended. DET's head coach was a TE. Stash and see how he develops.
14.10: Denver - plays at home vs fighting garropolos in week 1, but might drop already and grab WAS home vs AZ
15.01: Evan McPherson

Seems pretty solid. WAS D is a much better streamer this week. Unless you want to keep Denver long term. I would also consider dropping LaPorta for a high upside RB. Freiermuth should improve from last year, esp with red zone looks.

thanks! Freiermuth has a pretty early (wk 5 or 6?) bye week iirc, so I thought speculatively holding Laporta for now would be wise. Further, being #1 draft, I assume I start out dead last on waiver priorities so I planned on waiting several weeks for my priority to be higher and get a chance to nab someone good once injuries and first few byes are past.

Edit: yahoo's AI gave me a D- on my draft lol
