Need I remind you guys that DQ was 0-6 against Shanahan led offenses and coaches who worked under him. If we can't beat Shanahan and coaches like him, we're never going to win anything.

Awesome, glad he's going to Wash despite the really good things he's done for our defense the past 3 seasons.

It's as we all said immediately after the playoff loss.... if they aren't going to "burn it down", then we have to make one or two big changes or NOTHING is going to change next year. Quinn ends up being that change.

And I agree with the "be careful what you wish for" argument... it could definitely be worse next year, but we have to try!

My question is - who do they bring in to be DC? Maybe steal AG from Detroit?

It will probably be Joe Whitt Jr.

This should be the answer. He's not going to get another HC gig this year, and it would be a good way to stay up with the game, and if he were to turn the defense around and win in the playoffs, people would fall over to hire him next year. Plus if he performs well but Mike does his usual bit, then Vrabel would be next in line for the gig.

I'll be honest... I had no idea TN moved on from Vrabel. What!?! I was under the impression TN was fearful that he might leave for the NE job... but they flat out fired him, huh. Good luck with that I guess.

I know there's more to finding a DC other than just plugging in a big name, but heck yeah that sounds like a great move. Assuming he doesn't want or need a year to reflect and recharge his batteries, let's bring him in for a visit!

He brings the grit and mentality that we've been missing. Him and McCarthy might be good together because they are opposites in most regards in terms of football.

Good time to need a DC. Lots of great canidates

Personally I like Harris but would be happy with any of these canidates minus Whitt and Martindale.

I'm listening to the New Heights podcast with Travis/Jason Kelce and they brought up Kellen Moore as the OC for the Eagles and him being creative... so creative that he had EE hike the ball on a play.

I remember my opinion before the ball was hiked, screaming at the TV when EE got trucked, and now I just laugh at the thought of this play. It's like it was drawn up in the hotel walk through and never actually practiced to see that a grown ass man is just going to ragdoll your RB and destroy the play .1 seconds after it starts.

Have fun eagles! Can't wait to see you driving the field with ease and then a trick play on 1st down to get you -20 yards and end a drive.

Vrabel would be nice, but maybe Al Harris gets a shot.

Other than that, I can see the Cowboys recycling some hack they might have some familiarity like they love to do.

I don't trust Stephen Jones' judgement at all at this point. He's no different (in fact might even be worse than) Jerry.

Knowing Jerry, the new DC will be 80. He robs the cradle for OCs and the grave for DCs

You gotta think this will be more of a Mike McCarthy call than anybody else.

There is also a bit of uncertainty for anybody that takes this job... it's pretty obvious this is a "get it done or else" year for Mike. It may be hard to pull in a top name whenever the entire team might be dismantled after this "all in" year.

Keeping that in mind, Harris would make a lot of sense considering he's already here. I'm just not sure that satisfies the thought of needing a different voice in the room. I'd really like to see somebody new brought in.

Al Harris would be quite a change vs the DC's the cowboys have employed the last twenty years or so.

I'd welcome it.

Conversely, I think zimmer is a much better DC than HC.

This hire won't be a young up and comer. Someone with options who is coveted won't come here because McCarthy appears to be a lame duck coach. He could very well be gone before the end of 2024.

At least with Zimmer there is some history and he's coached very well for the cowboys in the past. Zimmer is pretty old and comfortable with the cowboys / jones family. We also wouldn't have to worry about giving his son a job like Minnesota was forced into doing.

2017 was the only year. last in scoring defense.

vrabel was not a good DC.

Wow, I had not realized he was a DC for one year.

Was listening to Dominque Foxworth talk about who was the hardest QB he faced. He said it was Peyton and he went on to say the colts only had a handful of plays and it was all Peyton. He knew the coverages and tendencies of the other team like no one else and would audible into the play that beat your defense once he got a read at the LoS.

He said that is also why he struggled in the playoffs bc that's when they were studying extra tape and coming up with exotic things to throw at him that he couldn't read at the LoS. He said that is why the cowboys struggled. They only have 10-12 plays and what worked in the season doesn't work in the playoffs bc defenses are preparing more and running exotic stuff.


My buddy and I were theorizing this 2-3 days ago. It's very much the same as the NBA, but it's much easier to see in the NBA that it's a completely different game in the playoffs. The NFL is the same. These defenses are scheme for teams in the regular season, but the really great defensive minds wait until the playoffs before they're really showing their brilliance. The same goes for these defensive players. It's a different level of preparation. and when you get to the playoffs with 10-12 plays and relying on Dak to get in the right call, he's looking out at a defense he's never seen before on tape that's well prepared for the few plays he runs and they know how to trick him.

All depends on who wants to put up with Jerry's crap…

The narrative they're using to try and keep people engaged is that they're going "all in" this year. The last 5-10 years they've tried to build a good team but not compromise the ability to compete in the future, so I'm expecting them to be more aggressive in either free agency or with their draft picks as far as filling holes.

No Jaylon smith or schoonmaker type picks.

So whose everyone's first choice for DC?
