I think this is right. Jerry just likes to go in front of the cameras and talk football. I don't have any doubt that if the football guys make a well reasoned case for something, he is rarely going to override.

Now, as I said on the thread a while back, when it comes to the big signings, I"m sure he has major input, but I don't think that's any diff than other organzations. When 'insert organization A' makes a run at a big signing or resigning one of their own to a big deal, ownership is consulted.

I think McCarthy and Dak are tied together. McCarthy clearly gave us the best version of Dak. If you get rid of him you're upsetting your QB and I'm not sure you find a better OC.

Keep them or pull the plug on both.

Definitely need to change the DC.

I think it's an interesting coincidence that both Dak and McCarthy's contracts expire after next season. Just don't be surprised/upset if you still see Dak get an extension, because his cap hits are a real problem unless they are able to kick that can down the road again.

On the Quinn side of things... obviously he gets a lot of credit for turning this defense around the past 3 seasons. In particular, he created a turnover machine which enabled us to absolutely steam roll several teams.

But you cannot overlook the multiple times his defense got completely run over the entire game. AZ, SF, Seattle, Buffalo and GB. Not to mention the last minute drives by Miami & Detroit where his D offered zero resistance.

Quinn got a majority of our top 150 picks the last 3 drafts and Micah and Osa are pretty much the only starters he has to show for it (you can count Bland too, but he was a 'got real lucky' 5th rounder). Quinn was pretty much TERRIBLE at player/talent evaluation and now we are going to have to spend a lot more high picks to fix our D.

What's the cap hit if

Dak is cut?

Dak kept but not renegotiated?

Post-June 1 it's $30 million in dead money

If he's extended you can probably get his cap hit this coming year down to $25 million or so

But cutting the MVP runner up and top 5-10 QB in the league would be insane so it won't happen

I believe I saw that Dak would count $59.4M against next year's cap under the current contract. If he is cut after June 1, its $25.5M dead money in '24 and $36.4M in '25.

Which is why you'd probably be looking to trade him more than cut.

what teams would take that deal?... Atlanta? Washington (we'd never trade him there).... Tampa? Seattle? He needs to be playing in the south or in a dome...

Minnesota?

Tampa ain't coming off of Baker at the moment.

Chicago maybe in hopes of expediting the rebuild. Atlanta would be big time, LV

I think Atlanta and the Raiders would flip tables to be able to get a guy like Dak because they have been so below average at that position for so long. Tennessee, Pittsburgh, New England and possibly Denver (although they are going to be cash strapped for a bit, so financially they are less likely) are also teams that I think would at least sniff around.

Just confirming the other posts... yes, I hear that $60 mil is the dead money for Dak right now without an extension. And as it was said, you can spread it out a little bit depending on the timing of it all.

I think the only way you can move on from Dak right now is if you can pull off the Micah trade like we discussed and get the #1 pick and HOPE the QB you draft can play like CJ Stroud.

That's a whole lotta "ifs" that first rely on Jerry being willing to part with 2 of his favorite players. Not very likely at all.

Would Tennessee do that after spending 2 high round picks on Malik and Levis?

Would Payton take Dak in Denver? he's shown to kinda suck in weather - same for New England. I still think Mac Jones has something for them. Have to think Pittsburgh is still focused on Pickett - maybe not.

Vegas would be a great landing spot. Dome, plenty of good skill positions on O and a team that needs to challenge KC and has shown the ability to beat them with lesser QB talent. Plus Davis would love a splash signing/trade like that.

I just think Tennessee would rather have a sure thing than continue down the draft a guy in the 2nd/3rd/4th route. With that being said, I really only believe Atlanta and the Raiders would be the only two teams. The pats would take a chance on the draft imo, and Pittsburgh would never do a deal like that. They have too much pride.

There is a no-trade/no-tag clause in the contract as well

Jerry is not trading Dak.

What Jerry has to be wondering is how can he sell this same tired pitch for a fourth straight season.

"Come watch Gag Prescott dominate the regular season and then collapse in the playoffs.....again."

Someone needs to ram it into Jerry's skull that these great 12 win seasons with tons of beautiful all pro's and fancy awards don't mean Jack **** if you can't win in January.

Fire McCarthy

Fire Quinn

Trade dak if you can

Like I posted earlier in this thread or the other, trading or cutting Dak is pretty unrealistic. Also, I'm not 100% he CAN'T win a championship. There are worse QBs that have won titles.

If I'm the Cowboys my realistic but drastic move has to be hiring a guy like Harbaugh and letting him run the team the way he sees fit the way they did with Parcells. Keep Dak and kick the can down the road another year or two on making a decision with him.

In the draft and/or FA you're gonna have to be active at interior DL and LB and they are going to need to bring another RB with fresh fast legs to take over for Pollard.

This team has to make some FA moves this offseason to stay relevant imo or else this is all going down the exact same way next year too.

But to start with, I think you gotta break the bank and shake up the culture and chase Harbaugh. (But they wont)

I understand. I understand.

I think the vast majority of fans just want to see some new people and a shakeup of some kind.

Sturm did a segment today on the defense and spent a good deal of time on Parsons. The feeling is that the guy is great, but creates a ton of problems for a defense if not used properly and you can't avoid the fact that 3 years in a row, his production all but disappeared when it mattered most.

I still think you check around w teams in the top half of the draft and see if they want Parsons.
Tksymm7

You aren't wrong, there are worse QBs that have one championships, but how many of those won it without an all world unit or aspect to their team, whether that be defense as a whole, offensive line, weapons etc.? Most of the ones I can think of either had all-time defenses, or all-time o lines/receivers. The cowboys don't have any of that, and won't have any of that. I think the cowboys would be better served to try and find that QB to give them a chance to win in the playoffs every single year.

Don't really have an issue with this, MM is clearly the most competent and successful coach in Dallas since Jimmy and the odds of hiring someone worse and/or washed up was high.

Will be interesting what happens with Quinn. Again, the odds of hiring someone worse are very high and we had some personnel issues this year no DC is gonna overcome.

Quinn Better be gone because it looks like there's no chance Dak will be.

Please hire Quinn someone.

Quinn is 0-6 against his former Falcons offensive staff / teammates whatever.

Why keep Quinn when he can't beat Shanahan, Lafleur, or the guy who's coaching the bills?

The Shanahan tree eats his lunch.

They eat everyone's lunch, especially teams with no linebackers. Not really sure what you think another coach with the same players is gonna do. You think Quinn doesn't cognitively realize what needs to happen to stop them?

Quinn is fading. Other teams know that if they just take care of the ball and run right at us that we will fall like a house of cards.

Cowboys inexplicably went against their strength against the packers and played zone Defense. Love found the whole in the zone every single time while our pass rush never got home.

The defensive game plan was a huge reason why we lost. Going man would've been better. Also…. Whose idea was it to draft Mazi Smith? We got nothing out of him last season.

SOMEONE needs to take the fall for this embarrassing and disgusting loss to the packers. Where is the accountability?

Whose idea was it to go thin at linebacker this year?

It also seemed that Love was drifting further back to create space btw him and the pass rush. They knew that if Love could buy that extra second then the Cowboys LBers and Secondary couldn't hold up in coverage.

Interest in the Cowboys is never going to drop no matter what. They still get the highest TV ratings of any NFL team despite the fact that nobody under the age of 35 can recall when they last played in an NFC Title Game much less a Super Bowl.

But with that popularity comes a tag. If the Cowboys stand pat and get the same results, the uproar amongst fans and media could reach a point where the atmosphere around the team becomes a total circus. It's one of these difficult situations where you may have to make changes just for the sake of doing so.

I don't blame the fans for rioting if Quinn is brought back given that we know McCarthy and Dak will be.

A wise man once said " insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results".

We just got destroyed, embarrassed, and exposed by a #7 seed with a lowly 9-8 record in our building. If you don't make changes now, when the hell do you?
