I think Stephen is involved. I don't think Jerry is very involved beyond sitting in meetings.

All of the heavy lifting of putting together a team is done by Will McClay. Dallas' problems are not drafting and player evaluations.

Now, I think it could be argued that the jones' get in the way when it comes to contract decisions and big acquisitions like Gilmore and stuff like that.

But I think it is safe to say the cowboys don't lack a talented roster. They have holes but all teams do really with maybe the exception of one or two teams.

As an outsider it looks to me like the biggest issue is not getting rid of players/coaches until it's way too late. Jones (or whoever is making that level of decision) is making decisions that aren't ruthless enough.

I thought Zeke Elliot should have been moved or not resigned several years before he finally moved on. He was unproductive. And an unproductive expensive player is bad news. That type of contract decision isn't limited to Zeke.

Garrett was the same was as a coach. He was kept on too long.

Sometimes you have to be ruthless and make moves a year early instead of a year late.

You have good players but not great ones. You don't need much there. You have a good QB and a good kicker. Those two things win a lot of games.

Dak made some bad decisions but is that because he's a bad QB or had a game get away from him early and he tried to do too much and pressed? I think he's good but not elite. I think you have a hard choice with Dak. His contract is a mess. If you try and move him that contract is an albatross. If you keep him it's really expensive and it limits what you can do. No win either way. Moving him means starting over. The NFL is littered with college QBs drafted high that became busts real fast.

Fix your coaching staff, specifically the DC. Quinn looked clueless last night. Like he had no idea what to try and everything he did try blew up in his face.

I've been a Dak supporter his entire career but yesterday was inexcusable and the last straw for me. It'd be one thing if his cap hit wasn't huge and he wasn't expecting to be the next highest paid QB but that's not the case from all indications. Time to move on and get a QB on a rookie deal. If Jerry caves and pays him, it'll just be more of the same over the next decade.

The most tired take in all of sports is "they will never win with that owner". The Cowboys actually do a lot of things really well and have shored up most of the problems they had. The team wins a lot of games. They just haven't delivered in the playoffs. I fail to see how the owner of the team is the reason for this. If anything, the pressure of playing in Dallas could be a big part of it. But that pressure would exist no matter who owned the team.
