I doubt McCarthy would ever say it, but there is a chance that Dak just decided the deep shot was there and went for a killshot on that 2nd down.

Yes that play was on Dak 100%. He had a guy breaking wide open in the middle of the field and missed him. He's either got to hit him or eat it. Can not throw it away there.
Sure you can say Dak missed a guy there or whatever, but why the **** was there a pass play called there anyway? Don't even put your QB in that situation
If it was an extremely safe, high completion rate pass call I dont hate it. Im with you, in that Id rather be vanilla and just run there.

Why would the Cowboys or why would a generic team? We suck at ****ing running the football
We were already in field goal range. The only outcome necessary on that play was to keep the clock running. Even if it's a run for no gain, if the clock keeps running they kick the FG with like 45 seconds left and the game is basically over

Because you play to win the game. We couldn't run the ball all night. Put the ball in your best players hands

if you run the ball you do win the game. They didn't even need the 1st down, they just needed the clock to keep running

This is the play that made this entire ****show exist. If this bull**** flag doesn't get thrown, then cowboys probably pick up the first down and run the clock out.

Eta the second down pass was still absolutely ******ed.

For the love, can the NFL finally put a stop to the fumble through the end zone BS! College football would most likely follow.

For a league that is all about scoring, it's just one of, if not the most baffling stupid rule in the game.

"Hey, that guy fumbled the ball... the defense didn't recover, but let's go ahead and give it to them anyways... and aw hell, let's give them 20 free yards too!"

Does the Eagles game even matter tomorrow? Obviously the giants game does but do we still even have a chance if the Eagles happen to lose to the Cards and beat the Giants?

Yea this rule has always been dumb. Doesn't make sense, even when I've read/heard the explanation for it.

I'm pretty sure it does because that would give the Eagles 4 conference losses to the Cowboys 3. That would be the tie breaker because, right now, they have the same division record.

So, in short, the Eagles have to win out.

If the eagles lose either of their last 2 games and the cowboys win next week then the cowboys win the east and have the 2 seed. Week 18 actually matters, for once.

It's still insane that Philly is 11-4 with a +26 point differential. Just makes no sense.

The refs screwed up twice on the Lions two point try. Not only did they completely misinterpret who was coming to them to report as eligible, but they also completely failed to announce to the defense what number reported as eligible. So, in the same way as Micah can't draw a hold for half the season or Hendershot gets called for the most phantom tripping, the lions definitely got hosed on one last. The thing people should take from this is how unbelievably awful NFL referees are.
DannyDuberstein

It's a screwup, but he announced 70 to the line and to 85,000 people on the PA and Lewis confirmed they accounted for 70. Dallas would have been the screwed team if they left a guy not announced run a route. Of course he was open. Det tried to be sneaky by sending 3 OL the ref, confused the ref, then didn't correct it

Truly pathetic and I don't blame the refs. The NFL needs to come up with some clear and standard rules. Cut all the petty **** out of it. I'm tired of hearing some phantom penalty that's never been called before all of us a sudden being explained by a ref on the field.

Make professional full time refs that train year round for this and start keeping track of things. This is out of hand.
Tksymm7

One of the more ridiculous things lost in all of this too is that the offense and referees must do this whole sequence within the play clock. So when an offensive lineman is coming to him to report as eligible (which skipper did previously), he hears it and immediately sprints away to make sure the offense has enough time to run that play. It's all garbage.

Either way, that's a massive freaking win, but McCarthy and Quinn had shockers last night too. McCarthy (and Dak to keep it real) with the unbelievably bone headed play call and execution of throwing a deep fade on 2nd and 14 to stop the clock, and then Quinn for continuing to get absolutely gashed on the run and whatever that abomination was of a final drive where Detroit went down the field in 45 seconds. We have to improve.

It is concerning that for two weeks in a row now, the defense has allowed a potential game winning drive. But on the other hand, that's now two weeks in a row that the offense has had a potential game winning drive.

Yeah I thought last week when we drove down the field to take the lead was the biggest drive of the season, and a huge drive for how people view Dak, and then he followed it up again this week (for the most part); but the defense got absolutely worked again in a final drive.

I really wonder how much we are lacking personnel right now. At one point on that final drive I looked up and it felt like we had four true speed rush d-lineman in the game, which sounds okay on paper, but they can get absolutely locked up at times, especially when they are tired. This along with no blitzing leads to no pass rush and getting completely picked apart.

Quinns defense is very good at times but is far from reliable in crunch time. We have a O that hits long spurts of non productivity and a D that isn't quite reliable in big moments. I really don't see us winning more than a game in the playoffs if that.

I can see it going down that way, McCarthy fired, Quinn hired (when I'm not really sure he deserves to be) and we start yet another cycle of a retread coach's path to mediocrity.

I disagree. Who in the nfc is better than the Cowboys right now? 49ers are the only team I think you can for sure say is better. Dallas arguably has the best QB in the conference. I like our odds if the Eagles can drop one of their last 2.

I would agree that the Niners are the only team that are head and shoulders better than us, however, with how awful/uncertain we are away from home, I don't think I would carry an ounce of confidence in the cowboys going to Philly to win even though on paper i think we are every bit their equal or better.

With the way Philly has played the last several weeks, I would love our chances in Philly. Dak owns them and we should've beat them the first go round.

Barring some egregious mistakes by him in the playoffs, I think McCarthy is going to come back. What he's done with the offense and Dak has been amazing. With that being said, we HAVE to run the ball better. There's way too many negative run plays.

I would have a heart attack if we hired Quinn. I think the Cowboys should move on from him all-together in fact. Just don't like how unbelievably feast or famine we've become on that side of the ball.

I just don't think McCarthy or Quinn can beat good teams. Especially on the road. Very little data or recent past proof to tell us that.

This team has some personnel issues to shore up, namely running game related on both sides. I don't think it's a coaching problem. They can try a new staff, but I dont think it helps anything

It's really close to being a championship team.

I disagreed with keeping JG for so long. Never saw them getting it done with him. But I think the opposite here. I can see it happening, and I also don't see any other HC options that i consider a definite upgrade.

Some shoring up in the middle, including LB. Their run defense has always fallen off when LVE gets hurt.
