We can get a couple good CB/WR in the second round... this allows us to add another good piece in 2025. We must be looking to sign a couple bigger contracts shortly.

With all these 2 & 3 year going out, will need to have those extra talent depth for 2026+

I could be way wrong, but it sounds good in my head.

That site has the new numbers before Tim Settle signing a 2 year 7 million deal. So we're probably sitting around 20 million in cap space this year still and that can get us 2 or even 3 good players.

I'm calling my shot and saying Texans are taking either T'Vondre Sweat or Ennis Rakeshaw at 42

I don't hate the deal, I just think it's a little light on return specifically because we know they're going to use pick 23 to package and move up to get a QB. Minnesota is already in front of Denver and LV who could also be thinking QB in round one but could try to move up as well. The chargers want to move back by all accounts so picks 11 & 23 should be close to what they need.

Wow, I missed last night that the Bears got Keenan Allen for a 4th. That's a team getting a huge offensive overhaul if they do take Caleb Williams and get one of the top 3 WR at #9.

If nothing else, no one knows what Nick is going to do. Huge move could come out of nowhere, or weird trades like this.

Other than 2-year deals, he is not predictable.

Traded out of the first round -

Minnesota gets #23 and #232

Texans get #42, #188 this year and a 2025 2nd rounder.

Gotta question the wisdom of doing that deal now vs on draft day. Feel like you have a greater chance getting more value if/when someone sees a player they cant live without. Also have a better opportunity to trade down multiple times and really stockpile picks.

Do we really think they're gonna take a receiver there when they now have 2 elite guys in Keenan Allen and DJ Moore, along with a good TE in Cole Kmet?

That deal wouldn't have been available on draft day since Minnesota is doing this to move into the top 5, maybe top 10. Still not sure if I like it, but it's not bad. It'll just depend on who drops.

It's a good point, but who knows now. Do you pass on a chance to get a WR at that level on a cheap contract for the next 5 years?

If you're looking to trade for a player and the team wants a 2nd rounder. Trade may not be available on draft day.

I think you almost have to pass on him. WR need targets. Unless you expect Caleb Williams or Fields to throw the ball 40+ times a game that is going to lead to one unhappy player.

I see no reason to trade a pick for a player. Just sign guys with your cap room and use those picks. You need young cheap players, can't have a team of vets making $10+M.

Damn, this FA period has some weird moments, the Steelers just traded Pickett and a 4th to the Eagles for a 3rd and a couple of 7ths.

I guess the Steelers are going to be in the QB market next year.

Where does everyone else see trends after the first week of free agency

Trending up:
Texans
Browns
Chiefs (I know, but keeping Jones is a big win and trading MVS for Hollywood Brown is a win)
Ravens

Not sure yet aka "really didn't go up or down after free agency":
Broncos (they are trending down so far that just by getting rid of people I think they stabalized at a low level)
Chargers (salary cap hell handled pretty well by Harbaugh)
Raiders
Colts
Bengals
Jets
Bills
Thumbtacks (I think they got talent, but I think they will regret it after this year with the contracts)

Trending Down:
Steelers
Jags
Patriots
Dolphins

Not sure I agree about the Steelers. They were almost in the playoffs without a competent QB. Russ is expensive but he's going to be asked to run play action and complete safe routes. Much like he did with SEA. I see them as clearing the deck for him.

Actually the Steelers are paying league minimum for him. Denver is paying him the crazy money still. For this factor, along with queen among others, the Steelers are clear winners so far this offseason

Russ isn't expensive in this, he's just a rental at 1.2 million for 1 year, but he's also the only QB on the roster now. They also traded away Diontae Johnson, so targets are getting slim. It just feels like they're taking a flier on Wilson to see if something will happen this year and then blow everything up next year if/when it doesn't work. But they haven't really addressed lack of playmakers and the o-line again.

You can do both. They got a 2nd round pick to move down a few spots in the draft. So basically you have flexibility to draft, trade it, or move back up if need be.

I still think Nick has a big trade he's working on, which if you're wanting to win now, may be better than drafting a rookie and waiting 2-3 years to develop to the same level as the player you're trading for.

Interesting...rumors starting to swirl about big moves still coming down the pipe. We apparently just restructured Shaq Mason's contract

Actually it is often difficult to trade down n the draft. Trading up is usually much easier, so Nick got the first trade down done now so he can trade up if necessary. Adding a 2nd next year from Minn could be a really good pick.

At the end of round 1 you don't get a guaranteed starter that you want he 5 th year option on. Pick 33 can be more valuable than 32. Nick wants a WR and DT with the first 2 picks and 42 should be a solid player.

I'm referring to having to give up both draft capital AND give out a big contract. I've never been a fan of that. Giving up a 2nd or 3rd for Diggs then having to give him $25+M doesn't strike me as good value.

If the contract is for 3 years, I am good with it.

Falls in line with Stroud and Andersons deal and it would be a contract extension that they can get out of in 2 years.

That's right, it is done in 2026…even better for the Texans…trade, restructure, give him money upfront and still be out from under it before CJ and Anderson are up for their big deals.

Pretty sure his contract runs through 2027, but we'd probably release him before then. Also, I'm not really sure what his cap hit would be for us. Buffalo would take a $31M cap hit if they trade him before June 1, which is more than his current cap hit so seems unlikely.

Bigger issue is that we're paying top dollar for a 31 year old WR who will be declining. Plus he has always been a little difficult. Not sure Diggs makes a ton of sense for us.
