Plus the word is that Bill doesn't want to go some place with where he has to deal with the media.

KC is the definition of a media circus.

I think Vrabel ends up in Seattle. Washington goes after either Ben Johnson or Slowik

Way more likely than others on that list.

So where the heck does Bill end up? Falcon job is now off the table.

Probably no where. Let's the Patriots become even worse for 2 years then gets hired back and drafts the next Tom Brady.

Great question, only two open jobs now with Seattle and Washington. I don't see Washington being a fit. Brand new first time GM, needs to draft a QB, traded away their best 2 defensive players last year during the season.

Seattle feels like a tough fit, but not necessarily impossible. The biggest question is why did they fire Pete Carroll? He's had decent results IMO and won games with Geno Smith at QB. If they were to cut/trade him and possibly bring in Cousins that could be interesting. Cousins openly said he'd welcome the chance to play for Belichick.

He probably does TV this year and waits for another shot.

I personally don't think I'd hire Belichick. He's 71, so you know he's only there for 3-5 years max. Plus since Brady left it's been rough sledding in New England for the past 4 seasons (29-38 record)

I'd hire him as a front office person, but not a head coach
Cartographer
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Yeah it feels like no one wants to roll the dice on him. He's been a control freak his entire career and absent Brady, he's not looking like a great coach or evaluator of talent.

Get him in the front office somewhere and let him have input but day to day decision making for him is likely over.

He's actively interviewing for jobs, so the presumption is he's not ready to retire.

I agree with you though. I'd hang it up and go fishing or hiking on the weekends and enjoy my fat stacks of cash

Well, yes and no. He could have very well be wanting to coach again, interviewed with the Falcons and said "eff this" and now will retire completely. Actually sounds plausible when I say it out loud.

He seems like the kind of guy where if he's not coaching,, he'll be dead in 3 months.

I would think he would take a year off and grumble on TV and then wait for some team to just be so desperate they'll do whatever he wants. Sort of like Gruden or Parcells? I can't remember if he did TV before going back to coach after the Cowboys.

If anyone was going to just fade into the background, it might be BB. He's never seemed to enjoy doing anything publicly, which has always been kind of odd for someone who is on national tv constantly. It is completely bizarre, however, that BB and Pete both got pushed out after all their success and can't land anywhere.

Bill the coach answering questions from the media is different than Bill just talking about football. He's talked football before on tv outside of the press conference setting and he's more affable than a lot of people know. While I'm sure he prefers coaching I could totally see him on TV as long as no one is trying to tell him what to say. I could see him on CBS with Boomer, Cowher, Simms, etc and fitting in with those guys. I think the group over at Fox with Jimmy Johnson, Bradshaw, etc is a bit sillier and not a great fit for him.

He definitely needs to be around guys who really know their stuff. He might have an aneurysm or commit murder sitting next to Terry Bradshaw for 3 hours straight.

"His genius is not specific to football. It's specific to leadership," said Texas A&M basketball coach Buzz Williams, who got to know Easterby when Williams was coaching at Marquette. "And I think leadership applies no matter the industry that you're in."

Ok, moving towards the super bowl weekend and the 2024 nfl draft order almost set, I took a stroll through memory lane of last year and how we were roasted for our Will Anderson Jr. pick

For those that don't remember the specifics (like me) here's the trade:

Texans got
pick #3 (Will Anderson Jr.)
pick #105 in the 4th round (which the Texans turned into a 3rd round pick in this years draft, which is also higher than our original we traded to the cardinals, because we finished ahead of the eagles - Eagles took Eli Ricks)

The cardinals got
pick #12 (they moved back up to #6 and got Paris Johnson Jr who has been ok. and gave up their original 2nd)
pick #33 (traded to titans, Levis pick, got a 2nd (BJ Ojulari, and a 3rd this year, plus some extra)
2024 1st round pick (pick #27)
2024 3rd round pick

Considering, per all of the draft pundits and scouts, there is no one in this draft at the edge they would rank above Will Anderson, I gotta say, this trade is truly amazing now and I laugh at how many were certain we gave up way to much (to the point of we might have damaged the future of the franchise) to get him.

And just to remind everyone here's some of the draft day articles that I could find:

https://www.pff.com/news/draft-2023-nfl-draft-did-the-houston-texans-give-up-too-much-trading-up-for-will-anderson-jr

https://www.sbnation.com/nfl/2023/5/3/23709347/texans-nfl-draft-cj-stroud-will-anderson-trade

https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/2023-nfl-draft-grades-for-all-32-teams-steelers-eagles-packers-clean-up-cowboys-patriots-among-worst/ (love the b grades for our 1st round picks and c+ overall)

Kind of crazy how much this draft is going to define our future, but just not in the way most thought.

Yes. And when you consider how high the bust rate is for Top 10 picks (especially at QB), Nick/Demeco did an incredible job making 2 top picks that sure look like home runs. Throw in the FA signings and their personnel evaluations last offseason were awesome.

I was one of the ones who thought they gave up too much. Glad it worked out as well as it did. But for that to be the case, we needed arguably the greatest rookie QB season in nfl history. Don't think we can get on anyone too much for not predicting that. I'm pretty sure even Caserio didn't think it would work out this well when he made the deal.

Here's to a fun next decade.

Oh yeah, the stars had to align correctly for where we are to happen, no doubt. While I wasn't as down on the trade as a lot of people, I did think it was too much.

This was more of a jab at the media and some fans who thought this crippled the franchise with no chance to recover in the foreseeable future.

But no matter what, I do find it amazing how much Caserio and DeMeco bet on the team's improvement to make the deal like they did...and then hit on that bet.

I don't blame the media one bit for poo pooing on our draft. Based on the previous 3 years, there weren't a lot of positive things happening in Houston to give us a better track record. That's what you deserve when you go have 4 years of different HCs and terrible contracts.

All's well that ends well, though. The media has done a 180 on this and now they might expect us to hit every draft.

I think that Nick has shown he can hit the home run with a lot of draft capital. It will be telling, though, to see what he can do with more regular draft capital that's middle to end of the rounds. There's a lot of holes to fill, so hopefully we have a smart and productive FA season as well.

Smart move on his part, being patient.

He's in a position to build on this year as the QB coach over an extremely talented offense and QB that a year or two from now he can be interviewing for HC jobs or the absolute best OC jobs.

Especially if he can convince this team to spend some of that cap room on more offensive weapons like Mike Evans or a stud RB or TE
