Am I missing something? He's "suppose" to be this offensive guru, but who wouldn't be with Drew Brees? Yes, he's an above average coach, but someone is going to overpay for him

Before taking over the Saints, SP was QB coach with the Cowboys where he was credited with developing Tony Romo. And remember that the Chargers gave up on Brees before SP turned into a star in NO. He also had some success with Teddy Bridgewater & Jameis Winston after teams had given up on them.

But SP is probably best known for his offensive game plans. He would often succeed with trickery or gambling and coming up spades. He does need the right DC to win consistently though.

How'd the Chargers do with Drew Brees?
In my experience, there's no such thing as luck.

It was a mixed bag. They struggled with him in 2003 and traded for Giants' draftee Phillip Rivers after Eli Manning rejected them. But in 2004, Brees had a pro bowl year and the Chargers made the playoffs. But when they missed in 2005, they had the excuse they needed to give the job to Rivers and let him walk. An injury didn't help his case either.

Brees never blamed Schottenheimer for what happened as he knew it was the front office that didn't want him. Still, after teaming with Payton he far surpassed anything he did in San Diego.
