So what are the options?

The narrative of giving the players a voice in making up the game or not is a joke. The NFL is about the money. They couldn't care less about what punter or kicker wants to do

Games are hardly ever outright cancelled though.

Quote:

ARTICLE 4. EMERGENCY SITUATIONS

The NFL affirms the position that in most circumstances all regular-season and postseason games should be played to their conclusion. If, in the opinion of appropriate League authorities, it is impossible to begin or continue a game due to an emergency, or a game is deemed to be imminently threatened by any such emergency (e.g., severely inclement weather, lightning, flooding, power failure), the following procedures (Articles 5 through 11) will serve as guidelines for the Commissioner and/or the duly appointed representatives. The Commissioner has the authority to review the circumstances of each emergency and to adjust the following procedures in whatever manner the Commissioner deems appropriate. If, in the Commissioner's opinion, it is reasonable to project that the resumption of an interrupted game would not change its ultimate result or adversely affect any other inter-team competitive issue, the Commissioner is empowered to terminate the game.
Quote:

ARTICLE 8. INTERRUPTED GAME

If, under emergency circumstances, an interrupted regular-season or post-season game cannot be completed on the same day, such game will be rescheduled by the Commissioner and resumed at that point.

Doesn't matter.

Players get hurt, and outcomes/standings are affected. This happens every week, all season long.

This is obviously to a greater extent in that a game may be completely missed, which changes potential percentages as compared to other teams, but it's still an injury that has affected the outcome of a game and therefore standings.

you know if the AFC title game at a neutral site is a big hit...

could that become the norm? (for the conference championship games)

dome teams and southern teams would probably support a permanent change

A lot of this mess wouldn't be an issue if the NFL didn't expand the playoffs and go to only one team having a first round bye.

BY FAR most insightful comment here. Was it REALLY necessary to add a 7th team? I get it for 2020, but in 4 games, the 7th seed is 0-4 and only one of those games was even close. Now, that decision has really come back to bite the NFL because without it, the worst case scenario is that IF Buffalo and KC end up in the AFC-C game, you either flip for home or you go neutral. Not perfect but a heck of a lot better than one team having to play another game due to no fault of their own. You could even screw around with the seeds and who each team would play in the divisional round (after first round byes) for additional fairness if you wanted to, but now it is academic.

With that said, the NFL doesn't have hardly any options the way they're set up. They pretty much have to do what they're doing. I don't think you could be for not continuing the game Monday and then complain about what happens next. We knew what was going to happen next.

the Chiefs are the winner here.

KC is safely in the clubhouse next weekend.

Bills & Bengals have to win 3 playoff games to reach the Super Bowl

How so? The Chiefs finished with the highest winning percentage. The rules in place before they were changed would put the Chiefs as the #1 seed. Changing the rules at the last minute was a benefit to the Bills. And yes, I do understand the Bills had the tiebreaker over the Chiefs, but it was 50-50 at best that the Bills would have beat the Bengals. Which I believe would have put the Bills up against the Ravens instead of the hapless Dolphins.

FYI, I hate the Chiefs so no dog in the fight here.

The dolphins are far superior to the Ravens- the ravens are easiliy the worst team in the playoffs
