Probably the worst ever officiating call in the history of ever. Someone should lose their job over it.

Agreed. Atlanta battled back and then the refs inserted themselves at an absolutely pivotal juncture.

They also called roughing the passer which seems weird for a sack.

Horrible call.

I just read through NFL roughing the passer rules and have no idea what the penalty was.

Hell, Brady tried to kick the guy who just sacked him. WTF kind of call was that

(Sorry for the language on the original tweet I posted - I have changed it to a more PG version)

I flipped the channel just in time to see it. That was crazy. At some point you would think that they would have some sort of public accountability but I'm not going to hold my breath.

Might as well just make QBs untouchable. Just further pussification of the sport because QBs are too damn fragile.

One of the times I want a coach to take his team and walk off the field, really humiliate the league for its hypocrisy.

Probably #3 on my list of worst calls ever:
(1) the unnecessary roughness call at the end of the A&M/ UT game in 2011.
(2) The "Tuck" ruling, Pats/Raiders game.
(3) this fiasco of a roughing the passer call.

Brady's always been a whiner. He got the call based on reputation and reaction. No other QB receives that baby treatment (see Tua vs. Bengals; much worse tackle, no flag).

I am a San Francisco 49ers fan, and I thought that roughing the passer call was a very ridiculous call. The Atlanta Falcons had made a critical 3rd down stop and were about to get the ball back to drive for a potential game-winning touchdown. Instead, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers retained possession and winded out the clock.

Except the statistics about roughing the passer don't back up your claim.

Which has nothing to do with my post or yesterday's joke of a call. Sick burn attempt, though, bro.

Um ok. It refuted the notion that Brady gets these calls more than others. Are you 12?

I read somewhere that the ref said he "unnecessarily threw him to the ground".

Such BS. Every QB in this league will fight to keep their feet, fight to throw the ball away, etc.... they will do anything possible to avoid the sack. And most QBs are pretty strong and not very easy to bring down.

There is no "nice" way to sack a QB... you gotta take him down! Because if you miss (while trying to avoid hitting his head and also avoid hitting him too low) there is a decent chance he steps up and completes a pass.

Yep, one of the refs cronie frat boys backed up the call and said it was a good call. Absolutely awful.

Another ridiculous roughing the passer call on Kansas City Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones on a critical 3rd down. He made a clean sack of Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Derek Carr and recovered the fumble that would have given the Chiefs the ball back sooner. Instead, the referee kept the Raiders possesion alive, which resulted in a field goal There was nothing else Chris Jones could have done diffferently.

I feel like somebody from the NFL head offices should be able to call and say "guys we're going to get murdered over this. Overturn it now."

I no longer understand what a roughing the passer call means. Are you not allowed to sack the QB? Why even have a pass rusher?

Agreed it's gotten ridiculous. The Brady call was inexcusable because there is no rule that protects a QB from a typical sack like that. The MNF call has a tiny bit of grace because of the "can't land on them with your full weight" rule... but not much because he clearly braced the fall with his left arm and made an incredible strip sack with his right.

The NFL either needs to chill out with the flags or they need to allow replay of QB roughing calls.

I hate "money" rules in professional sports. Rules that have nothing to do with the betterment of the game, just business about protecting high money/skill positions.

Both calls were awful. In my mind the KC call was especially egregious since the ball was instantly loose/fumbled at first contact before he was taken down.

What does being a 49ers fan have to do with this, and why do you make sure everyone knows that?

This has got to be the only time in NFL history that a person has been called for roughing the passer while also having possession of the ball
