Limited Waiver Draft Strategy

I have a superflex league that, for the first time, is limiting waiver pickups to 1 per week. How would this change your draft strategy? I am usually super active on the waiver wire to the point where I had teams where I drafted all RB and WR and then streamed QB (before superflex), TE, K and DST. Here are my conclusions:

  • I need to protect that waiver wire pickup early in the league to pick up that lottery ticket that ends up winning leagues, which means:
  • I need to carry two defenses and two tight ends. I can then stream those two DST and TE every week so that I am not playing a defense against KC. Maybe only carry one TE if I end up with Kelce, Waller, Andrews, Hockensen or Pitts.
  • Still carry one kicker. Figure out his bye when it comes up (maybe take a zero if I need to pick up a player).

Are you allowed to acquire other guys during the FA period throughout the week? Or just one pickup for the whole week? I tinker a ton and that sounds like hell to me haha

Just one pickup a week. It is hell for me too. Every year the first place and consolation bracket winner get to institute a new rule. This was the consolation brackets rule to limit those of us where the waiver wire is just an extension of our team.

That is a lot of power for the sixth place team...TE depends on where you want to draft one...given your league settings, I would 100% go for Waller or Kittle in the third and try to dodge that bullet entirely.

As for defenses, I would try to use this graphic http://www.espn.com/nfl/schedulegrid and try and see which schedules are complimentary or favorable. At first glance, Denver and NOLA could be a decent pairing.
