The story is slowly moving to be incognito, while a raging a-hole, isn't quite the monster as media making him out to be and Martin may have bigger issues.

Especially if it's true what Hartline said about Martin passing around the voicemail Incognito left and was laughing about it.

This is a wild ass story.

It sounds like two crazy people is what it sounds like. Kind of like stories that come out of a crazy relationship where you don't hear the whole story from either side, but each was contributing some share of crazy (although not necessarily equal).

However, I still think the question remains about Incognito being on the leadership council when he's been an unmitigated disaster personality-wise at all of his previous collegiate and professional stops.

The whole you need to be a psychotic maniac to play in the NFL is a new thing. Reggie Wnite was an ordained minister and he was dominant. It used to be you were psychotic because you did nit have the physical skills and had to be Jack Lambert crazy to play.

I am quickly getting sick of football and it's garbage.

Something in the story isn't adding up. Because it sounds also like the fins sent incognito after him to toughen him up.

It all adds up. ESPN ran with the report based on the Martin camp's "voicemails" and they got a transcript and began to turn Inocgnito into a "psychopath" because they thought they had a national bullying story on their hands.

They went too far too fast and now they are racing to jump on the other end and continue to "report" on the case even though they shaped the narrative to begin with.

Every single person in the Dolphins locker room is on Incognio's side, including those who heard the voicemails saying Martin laughed them off letting guys hear it. Now reports are Martin punched Incognito. Tannehill says if you would have asked Martin who his best friend was one week before he left he would have said Incognito, they were that close.

Everyone who has direct access to what really happened is on the side of Incognito. Tells me all I need to know. Incognito is a major jackass, but he isn't some caged animal who can't handle himself in a locker room. Sounds exactly the opposite and Martin can't handle himself or living the NFL life.

Can't believe this gem was missed. Yeah, you go try to take Incognito behind a barn and beat his ass and tell me how that works for you. Especially in the position of someone like Tannehill, who is much smaller and actually makes much much LESS (390k) than Incognito (3.3M). So spare me the "rich QB" talk too...

If incognito went and bought Jet skis for 15k on Tannehill's dime, that is over 5% of his take home earnings for that year. That is ridiculous considering Incognito earns 8.5x MORE than Tannehill. The carrying pads and stuff is understandable and even going a bit farther than that is okay. This money-grubbing stuff is ridiculous.

I think the Stanford man is soft, and smart. He's getting himself a lawsuit going against Incognito, the Dolphins, and the NFL.

He also may have a serious mental disorder.

A big problem with crediting Tannehill is that, as someone said, he let this guy run a $15k charge up on his credit cards. Crazy.

I wonder how the ESPN and the media would react if Kwame Harris came out and said Incognito is gay, and Martin is straight.

Not sure they could handle that.

BTW, Kwame Harris was recently charged with domestic violence.

I still don't know what to think of this fiasco, but I doubt the fins could've handled this thing in a worse way. When you have the GM telling a player with what would at least sound like a legit harrasment concern to "punch" the accused party, you're really asking for legal trouble in the future. It would seem as if nobody in the organization has a clue how to handle something that has pretty much been layed out in the corporate world for years in how to appropriately deal with. It's just beyond me how someone in the upper office of an organization could make such a boneheaded suggestion. **** like that is just asking for a lawsuit.

I also feel less bad about the $15K that Martin was asked to donate to the players trip, if this is true.

He verbally committed to the trip, they paid, he backed out.
At least according to former teammate. He also discusses the lunchroom "prank".

I think a key thing to note is that Martin has never come out and said anything bad about Incognito or the situation. All of this is just ESPN taking random facts and making up a story out of it. Martin could have left for whatever reason (health issue, mental problems, etc), and then ESPN found out about these few facts that sound bad if taken out of context and decided to make up a story about it.

Now a lot of the stuff about Martin seems weird (I still want to hear what Martin has to say about it), but that doesn't change my opinion of the tannehill thing. That kind of crap needs to stop, especially now with a rookie wage scale.

The other side of things is how long does this go on in NFL locker rooms? This guy was a second year player. It's not like this was a one time rookie minicamp thing. I also think this kind of stuff is way more prevalent in poorly led teams. You think a team with Tom Brady or Peyton manning on it has this happen? More so, do you think belichik puts up with this? Not at all, and I think that really reflects badly on the coach.

I just read an article that says Martin's agent complained about Igcognito to the GM, so maybe Martin did have a problem with him. If so, I guess you can ignore my last post.

no doubt there is a big leadership locker room problem. Remember Incognito is one of the most senior players (10 years in the league) on the team. In fact he may be the most senior player. There is no one to stand up to him

I don't know if I'm more offended to hear that they sweated Martin for $15k for a Vegas trip, or that a group of NFL offensive lineman that collectively average millions per year couldn't get most of this trip comped.

Oh, he handled it at the time as well as he could. The question is whether, knowing that Incognito is the kind of guy that would do that, he's really in top of Incognitos relationship with Martin.

Hadn't seen this before, Incognito's "crazy" voicemail ends with his saying, "OK, call me back"

Incognito is a meathead. He's crazy, he's exactly who you want on your team but hate to admit to having and he's the arch enemy if he's on any team you play against. There will be multiple stories that come out and try fuel the Incognito is nuts fire. Well all that will do is confirm what we know. He's a hooligan.

However, if there is anyone you want to listen to in this situation, it's the players. I don't think I've ever seen a situation where the entire locker room has come out in defense of the guy who is the "suspect"(for lack of a better word) in a story. It's hard to fathom other than than Martin is a softie and a little weird in the head.

Given Murtha's comments linked above about how Martin verbally committed to the Vegas trip, then backed out after someone else paid his 15K (and the explanation on the lunchroom prank), and the linked comments about how Incognito ended his voice mail with "OK, call me back", and the whole locker room standing beside Incognito.

I think I side with Incognito on this whole issue, but maybe not the GM.

Thanks for posting the link to the interview. Certainly he comes across as candid. However, actions speak louder than words. If it was another player, I'd give him the benefit if the doubt. However, his history on and off the field validates martin's claims

Now now BMX. Let's not start looking at the facts. It's much easier to go into emotional hysterics. Didn't you read the first two pages? Incognito threatened to murder Martin. He had no choice but to go to the police (which I don't know that he actually did go to the police but that accusation was made).

quote:
Really need to hear the voicemails. Reading them doesn't provide you a tone

Exactly. And not just the voicemails and texts from Incognito, the ones sent from Martin to Incognito as well. Supposedly there are texts out there where Martin threatened to kill Incognito and his family. From the outside looking in it does seem a little over the top but friends say crazy stuff to friends all the time.

quote:
When you have the GM telling a player with what would at least sound like a legit harrasment concern to "punch" the accused party, you're really asking for legal trouble in the future.

Yeah, the GM messed up there. He is going to get fired. With any harassment claim, the party being harassed has an obligation to report the claim and give the organization a chance to rectify the situation. Martin apparently did this via his agent but the GM mocked his complaint. Wrong move.

It's not even close as to who the players are rallying behind. Clearly they are defending Incognito while scratching their heads as to why Martin basically broke down. In fairness to Martin, everyone has a breaking point. His was just less than most in the NFL. Mental toughness should be a component in a player's evaluation. Apparently this aspect of Martin was missed during his scouting for whatever reason.
