there are reports and chatter circulating that a big cheating story is about to be released regarding Cam Newton and his days at Florida.

apparently he got a student to write a paper for him..turned the paper in..the Prof gave him another chance..then he just got a paper of the internet and turned that in instead, and this time the Prof turned him in and Florida was about to take major action so Newton left instead (citing Tebows return as the reason for him leaving).

there are lotsa negatives hitting the public in the last few days about this kid...his heisman chances have got to start dwindling pretty soon.

The story was released last night.

At the same time, to me this is a big smear campaign by someone who doesn't want to see him/Auburn succeed.

of course it's a smear campaign, but it still doesn't mean he isn't a dirty cheatah.

The articles that are coming out today state he bought a stolen laptop, not stole it as that article states.
Danny Duberstein
How long do you want to ignore this user?
His story is that he bought it; however, either way, he knew it was stolen because he tossed it out the window when the cops came to ask him about it. This is very old news, but in any case, it still demonstrates a history of bad judgment which helps lend credibility to other dirt stories that start coming out about a person.

How bout the fact that this isn't soley Cam Newton? Where is the hammer being dropped on the Miss. State guys who discussed paying him to come there? All the focus is on Newton, not anywhere else, as it should be as well.
MookieBlaylock
How long do you want to ignore this user?
no, he left florida and had to go to JC to get back into a D1 school- that is paying his dues

unless there is proof Auburn paid him- this is bs media story led by Bama

the same thing would happen to the Ags if we were #1 right now

no one at Miss. State discussed paying him. maybe that is why no hammer is being dropped.

Might want to read this. Was trying to find the link that said this, but this came out today.

All of this was started when a former Miss State player was discovered trying to get the money to pay him.

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=5792707

quote:
Kenny Rogers, the former Mississippi State player who ESPN.com reported allegedly sought money to sign Cam Newton to a national letter of intent with the Bulldogs, said Thursday that Newton's father, Cecil, put a price tag on his son.

Rogers, in an interview with ESPN 103.3 FM in Dallas, was asked if Cecil Newton ever told him how much money it would take to get his son to play for Mississippi State. "Yes, he did," Rogers said.

Asked how much, Rogers said: "Anywhere between $100,000 and $180,000."

Later in the interview, Rogers said he and Cecil Newton first talked after Cam Newton left Florida Gators following the 2008 season. In the course of their conversations, he said Cecil Newton told him, "It's not gonna be free this time."

Rogers said he only was involved with Cecil Newton in regards to Mississippi State.

Rogers said on Nov. 28, 2009, he and Cecil Newton followed each other out of Starkville, Miss., after the Ole Miss-Mississippi State game. He said Newton asked him: "What do you think is going to happen? You think it's going to go through?"

He said he was referred to a Mississippi State booster named Bill Bell. Rogers said he left Bell a message telling him he was with Cecil Newton, who wanted to know if the deal was going to happen.

Bell has not commented publicly on the allegation.

Rogers said he didn't know if Cam Newton knew about the request for money. He said he did not meet Cam Newton until Nov. 27, 2009.

Rogers said he didn't know anything about Newton's recruitment at Auburn or any other school. He said he had "no idea" why Newton chose Auburn or if Auburn paid Newton.

Rogers spoke with his attorney on the phone. The attorney, Doug Zeit, said there was never any discussion about Rogers getting paid out of the money Cecil Newton was asking.

Mississippi State officials declined comment on Rogers' interview Thursday.

So now the recruitment story is getting more names and specific dates & places where the contact took place. Something happened to get Newton to Auburn. It's just a matter of will enough evidence be discovered before the BCS title game.

It would be a downer for the BCS and college football if the suspension comes after the BCS pairings are set and before the actual championship game is played. In another words Oregon would have a cake walk to the title.

mts is desperate for anyone but Cam Newton to be nailed for this.

Like I mentioned in other threads, the real issue for the Newtons could arise if/when Kenny Rogers started talking. It looks like that's now happening. The next stage will be validating that discussions took place between them, whether it's phone records, hotel records, etc. If anything at all gets found there to establish that conversations took place, this thing will move to the suspended-while-investigating stage.

In a way, this thing is starting to smell a little Big Red Auto-ish. MSU covered its own ass in January by reporting to the SEC, things got "investigated" but nothing is found (possibly due to, like OU, folks not interested in looking too hard/closely), then someone else raises it again (aggiegrant meet John Bond) and now it's getting a whole new level of national scrutiny that appears to be shaking stuff out of the bushes (starting with Rogers talking now).

per Andy Staples twitter:

"According to the NCAA, a violation is committed the moment an athlete (or the athlete's family) solicits for extra benefits."

MSU can basically kill Auburn if they are able to confirm the ESPN story.

Rogers is a former MSU football player. That makes him automatically affiliated with MSU. He also admitted to trying to solicit money from another MSU booster to pay the money Cam's family was asking for so he would sign with MSU.

1. Your infatuation with me rises again. Please get a life.
2. I could give a **** less if Cam gets busted for this. What I do give a **** about is that two pigs ratted out another pig, and all three are dirty. This should go down just as hard on MSU and Florida as it does on Auburn/Cam.

and, according to publicly available information, as soon as the msu athletic department was made aware of this, AD staff contacted the ncaa.

Wrong. Once you are labeled as an affiliate of the program, which former athletes are, you never lose that tag per NCAA rules.

And it also revealed there was a known booster willing to fork over cash. I.E. Bill Bell.

this is just flat wrong.

And where has it been stated that Bell offered money? All I have read is that he was solicited for money. If he said "no," then why should there be a hammer dropped on them?

We now have Bell and Rogers confirming the dad was seeking money for Cam to play at MSU. I suspect both are liars, right?

Back to the original post of this thread, funny that no one from the Newton family has denied the cheating, yet people still try to defend it like its a false story concocted by other jealous schools of the SEC conference.

quote:
This should go down just as hard on MSU and Florida as it does on Auburn/Cam.

So Cam, who we have people verifying tried to get money to play, should be punished the same as MSU and Florida, who there is no evidence of any wrong doing at this point? Yeah, makes sense.

your original post was better.

i will say that Bell talking to the Newton family at all could be seen as improper recruiting, even if money was not discussed. So I don't want to sound like MSU is in the clear on all this.

Newton is going down. its gone from smoke to an inferno.

NCAA rules impacting the eligibilty of the scholar-athlete, not NCAA rules impacting the standing of the university's athletic program. the only violation you could hit the program with would be a "lack of instiutional control" or a "failure to monitor" infraction. in light of the current public facts and the ncaa's past judgments, this seems extremely unlikely. perhaps the publicly known facts will change. maybe this is what you are banking on.

Yep, we'll see if anything new comes out, but at this point, MSU can fall back on "hey, we were monitoring and we reported it". Now whether they would have ever said anything if Newton actually gone to MSU, we'll never know. But at this point, the program already made a CYA move.

Report is that cecil newton admits to trying to get money from MSU, but not auburn, without Cam's knowledge.
