Mort and Scheftie are reporting that it's 4 game minimum, 6 game max with provisions on his behavior.

Also being reported that feelers are going out like crazy to Pitt to see if he's up for trade. The rumor is that the Rooney's are listening.

Rooney The Elder wouldn't even say he stood behind his QB. They're trying to send a very serious message (obviously) but I don't see any way they would trade him unless he gets fresh with another girl.

I still think Big Ben ends up in Arizona. he is going to get the Vick sentence. Suspension and then if he jumps through the correct hoops, it will be reduced.

You forget Arizonas ownership is one of the cheapest in the league, no way they pay Big Ben's contract amount.

retarded for 4-6 games without a conviction or even so much as an indictment.

over-punishment to compensate for being white.

Guess the NFL now is above the law. If the law dismisses the case, the NFL will hold its own trial.
Be interesting to see where he lands or what the steelers will be like till he comes back from suspension.

I believe this has to do more with the spotlight being on the league moreso than him getting a conviction. I am sure there is more with this than we know. Is there money that has been paid to both or one of the girls? While not admiting guilt, paying off someone would sure gives the appearance of guilt. I really don't think we know everything.

yup...exactly as I predicted yesterday on the leftwich thread.

4-6 game conditional suspension.

As I said on the Leftwich thread...they won't have 4 QB's this year(Dixon/Batch/Leftwich)...they rave about Dixon's development, Batch is a staple with the organization and the city, and Leftwich knows the offense and coaching staff and loves it there.

I guarantee they are listening to trade offers for Ben. Likely, they wont get anything they like(unless Oakland is dumb enough to give up this year's 1st round pick).

At this point, I bet they are listening, but they will probably just stick it out with him and cut either batch or leftwich when he returns to the team.

the NFL isn't "above" the law. It has its own rules and is free to enforce them regardless of what the law decides.

I agree this is too large a punishment though.

I'm a Steelers fan, but Ben is a complete creeper and I'm fed up with his nonsense.

That being said, I agree it's over-punishment. Just a week and a half ago or so Wilbon said on PTI that he didn't think there should be a suspension since there weren't any charges filed, while Kornholer said he thought 2 games, and then played up the "is there a racial element to why he won't be suspended longer?"

I was surprised to see Wilbon immediately(and correctly) shoot that down and re-iterate the other long suspensions of black players were people who had been previously charged with crimes, some of them multiple charges, and I think all of them(other than Vick) involving guns.

As the situation grew, and the juicy details leaked...I knew the NFL would jump out and over-do the suspension.

But again, as a Steelers fan who's fed up with it, I'm ok with whatever happens. Hell, at this point I wouldn't mind trading him for the right value, and drafting JJ late in the 1st or 2nd round next year!

ESPN's Adam Schefter is reporting that the Steelers are shopping Big Ben for a top 10 pick in tomorrow's draft. Supposedly at least one team is considering it.

Just reported on Cowherd that the Steelers are actively shopping him now for a top 10 pick.

Nice.

As a Steelers fan, who understands and appreciates what Ben has done for the team over the last 5 years...if we can get a top 10 pick, then I'm all for it.

how long will it take to get another qb as good as him?
Bunk Moreland
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Not sure, but the Steelers won their first SB in the Ben era with defense and running the football.

His heroics 2 years ago will never be forgotten, but I think the Steelers can still be successful without him, even though when healthy he's a top 5 QB in the league.
The D
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Hes top 5 QB. Remember the days of Tommy Maddox and Kordell Stewart? I think its stupid to dump him, it will be a while before the Steelers get a QB as good as him.

Well, they love Dixon. I'm ok with going Leftwich/Dixon/Batch for a year, then drafting a QB in next year's class, IF(and only IF) they got a top 10 pick where they were able to get a position of need.

They draft McCoy and he wins 7 Super Bowls.

Well, I sure hope that the Steelers do trade him - he is a bad guy. I hope whoever trades for him never wins a game. It's pretty clear that Ben is a sexual predator, and I think it's much worse to invite him into your community than Mike Vick.

Though we've seen the reports suggesting that the Steelers won't trade quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, we haven't believed them. The Pittsburgh media has opened the door far too wide, and the team has done nothing to slam it shut.

Recently, a theory had emerged that the Steelers were choosing not to nip the buzz in the bud in order to ensure that Roethlisberger spends a week or so in fear of being exiled out of Pittsburgh, something that actually may be in his best long- and short-term interests.

If it's a ruse, it's a damn convincing one.

A day after Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported that the Steelers are receiving trade feelers from other teams, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the Steelers are contacting teams in the top ten of the draft regarding a possible trade.

Per Schefter, at least one team is considering the possibility of sending the top-ten selection to the Steelers for Roethlisberger.

As explained in a PFTV segment we'll be posting soon (actually, in two of them), there's a team in the top ten that should be more than willing to make the swap.

I think the players think they are above the law.. Big Ben is being made an example here. These players represent the NFL, and the NFL is not any different than any other companies.. Code of conduct needs to be stressed. Big Ben keeps making dumb moves. This wasn't his first rodeo per say. Might be a little long but I doubt its 4 games.

i don't think the steelers would trade with the browns, especially trading someone like roethlisberger. he still very much can come back to hurt you, much more so than I think Mcnabb is going to in washington. maybe next year, but Was will get diminishing returns from McNabb over the next 3+ years, while Cle would have a super bowl winning qb, who, if he can keep his dick in his pants (no small task), would come back to kill Pit.

only top 10 teams that seem realistic would be:

rams- could go get roethlisberger and probably a 3rd or 2nd round pick to build around (and given that the rams have a horrible OL, Big Ben will be better able to deal with that than Bradford).
chiefs- don't see this happening unless they're already ready to pull the plug on the matt cassell experiment. GM's don't like to do that because it basically shows they failed pretty royally.
browns- see above
raiders- certainly would be an appropriate landing spot for big ben
jax- jacksonville is awfully close to georgia, that doesn't seem like a good idea
buf- seems a likely destination...they'll take just about anyone at this point if it would take them out of football purgatory.

mike lombardi made a good point on simmons podcast the other day: this really is an ideal situation for the steelers to keep him and sort of set a tone for the entire team. the theory florio's espousing would fit into this. trading him will get them less than full value, so the only way they trade him is if they just feel like they can't put up with his **** anymore and are willing to pay the price (or of course, someone comes in with an above market offer).

by keeping him, the coaches and management can put their imprint on the franchise (that's gotten a bit out of control) while not having to give up their franchise qb.

After all this, I think if someone offers them a high 1st rounder, Steelers take that in a second.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
I posted this on a different thread earlier but if Im the Rams I offer our 2nd round pick for him. Then they can take a DT 1st overall which is a better value than a QB who might not pan out.

33rd pick overall is a good pick for the Steelers who always seem to draft pretty well.
