Try analytical laboratories should be some in Dallas and Houston

Try chemical plant testing labs. Most plants has labs. Companies like Lyondell and Ineos but there are a ton around Houston

My son just graduated in chemical engineering and wound up working for a company called Onterris doing environmental remediation work. It's very entry level and his coworkers are mostly biology/chemistry majors. They have an office in the Houston area. I don't think they are in Dallas or Austin, but I could be wrong.

Getting in at a big chemical company/refinery is going to be very hard right now. I would look at consulting/contractor companies.

Environmental jobs are going to be very entry level, repetitive, and low pay, but maybe best chance right now. Any experience whatsoever?

If in Houston area, there are lots of chemical and petrochemical companies but market is tight. Lyondell, Shell, Chevron, Exxon, Valero. There are a few 3rd party testing labs in Pasadena like Bureau Veritas, Amspec, SGS, but those places can be meat grinders for folks. I have less experience but there are oilfield service companies such as Haliburton or Schlumberger, or water treatment such as Nalco or ChampionX.

If looking at Pharma, check out Eagle Analytical in Sugarland. Eli Lilly is building a new campus in NE Houston, but are mostly looking for PhD and experienced hires for now.

Austin, its more tech than chemistry. Quite a few semiconductor and semiconductor adjacent companies. Samsung, Entegris, Tesla.

Can't speak for Dallas area.

Did you have a particular career in mind when you chose the chemistry path?

Sherwin Williams in Garland/Dallas.

It might be like watching paint dry, but...

They have an R&D-Associate Chemist position.

I graduated with a ChemE degree and it was the 1st company I found in the newspaper wanted section. Applied. Didn't go that direction, ended up in Tech.

Waste companies like Clean Harbors will hire you on the spot. You will drive a truck to customers and load up and classify their waste, then bring it back to the disposal facility. Not a great job, but will get your toot in the door of the industry side. Good jobs in waste on the producer side. Easy. Lots of paperwork and carbon copies.
