I live in DFW and I have worked in the real estate development business (specifically multifamily) across Texas for almost 10 years now. Multifamily real estate development is a particularly tough business at the moment and our firm has undergone some major changes (for the worse), including far more corporate nonsense than ever before. Overall, it has been a great experience and I have done pretty well, but I keep finding myself wondering if it is time for a career change.
I have a close friend who also lives in DFW and works in wholesale insurance brokerage for one of the "big three" wholesalers. He was an attorney in a previous life and hated it. He moved over to wholesale insurance brokerage about 3-4 years ago and absolutely loves it and does pretty well for himself. He frequently mentions that I should come work with him. This started as something of a joke, but now seems to be a legitimate opportunity and it sounds very intriguing.
I am curious if there is anybody on here that works in wholesale insurance brokerage and would be willing to chime in with pros/cons, risks, challenges, culture, etc. Obviously a career change is not something to take lightly, so I am trying to gather as much information as possible as I consider my options.
