How long do you want to ignore this user?
Anybody ever gone through a layoff but got an offer before getting laid off? Did you walk away from a possible severance before all decisions were made in n the process?

Is the offer with the same company?

No. It would be separate organization. Similar pay. Timing would likely result in having to walk away from severance. However, slight chance the stars align and could get both. Slight chance I will not be laid off. Would prefer to get away from current situation but can't imagine the what if moment if I got laiyoff notice after accepting offer where the timing of the new job start was prior to the separation date. So new start let's say is 5/1 and get notice on 3/31 that layoff is 6/30.

No guarantee layoff will happen but writing is somewhat on the wall. Severance package is very good.

Maybe I'm not understanding your description well, but it seems like a no brainer to take the new offer.

The only way I wouldn't take the new offer is if you are certain that severance from your current company will be pay for several (3+months) or you have a bad feeling about the new job.

Severance is very good at 9+ months. New job does come with risks but a year severance would be very beneficial….getting a job when you don't have one at my age is more difficult

More curious to see if anyone has extended a start date out 90 days. Seems ridiculous to even ask

I have been in a similar situation, along with quite a few friends. I think you should be willing to walk away from severance for the right situation. Your ability to negotiate for a new external role is much stronger now. Assuming you can negotiate and could secure a higher salary, signing bonus, or other forms of comp for the new company to attract you away from your current employer, then you aren't really leaving the full value of the lost severance on the table.

The other aspects are stability and opportunity. If you make it through this current situation at your employer, does that lead to a more stable role and organization, or will you have possible severance concern still going forward? Which company and role offer better growth opportunities?

I delayed one by 60 days due to receiving a large bonus. Was upfront with the new company about it. It was also a move several states away. If I had to do it over again, I probably just would have forgone the bonus and started sooner.
