HS Coach of 11 years looking to make a change. I have had some success in coaching, but I am now looking for something that could allow more financial freedom. The hours & other challenges that come with coaching/teaching are taking a toll.

Any leads/advice would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

I recently transitioned from being a teacher and coach. If you need a sounding board of advice I would happily chat with you anytime. DM me and we can exchange contact details.

DfwAg11, I'm also a current teacher/coach ready to make the jump. I can't DM you, is there another route I could take to contact you? I would appreciate the advice.

What are you all looking to do next? I understand you may not have it figured out, but maybe ideas for the board so we can help direct you.

I think that is the question I am struggling with, Coaching is all I have done in my professional career.

I just do not know what other jobs out there would be a fit based on my qualifications & work history. I also cant afford to take a significant pay cut at this point in my life just to start something brand new.

I'm in the same boat. I'd love to get out of the profession and have a better work/life balance. But I did 9 years in the Marine Corps in a combat job and now have coached and taught PE for 8 years. Sure I have some skills and lots of intangibles that are marketable, but it's all entry level and some of those aren't that good of a fit. With my stipends I make $78k before taxes. Don't know how to leave and not take a significant pay cut that will impact my family.

There seems to be quite a few former coaches in the insurance industry. Generally, the sales side of the industry chews up and spits out more people than those who make it, and the underwriting side is hard to break into midcareer, but it may be worth looking into. There are a variety of roles to consider.

Same with coaches in pumping jobs in the oilfield. They all tell me they are making way more and don't miss teaching one bit. I work with at least 6 guys that were all HS coaches and transitioned to the production side of the oilfield.
