This may be a long shot but thought I would try…

My company designed and builds a rental AC unit for a large rental company. They've asked us to build a new unit with the new refrigerant mandate coming through but we don't have anyone on staff that with the technical knowledge needed, specific to how to update the refrigerant system.

Using our current design, which uses 410a, we need someone to guide us through what is needed to update our unit either in a consultant role, or turn key.

If anyone has a contact or knows a company that could help us, let me know!

Where are you located?

I've heard this refrigerant change is causing problems for a lot of people.

Located in Dallas.

Next difficult part, is that UL doesn't have a lab large enough to test our units in (from what we've been told). We will have to use another regulating agency it looks like.

It's fittin a be an unmitigated disaster. The EPA unicorn fart regulations are requiring refrigerants which really aren't yet approved in any of the building codes.

If you are local in BCS, try Cleary Zimmerman MEP engineers. They are fanatic people, I hire them a lot for MEP projects in town. They might be commercial only since that's what I work in but wouldn't hurt to try.

this should be closely coordinated with the compressor manufacturer for a Longterm solution. In the short-term, there are drop in refrigerants that can substitute for R410A with a slight reduction in capacity (will need to derate the unit). You would be best served reaching out to the compressor manufacturer's, or getting one of the major HVAC equipment manufacturer engineers (think Trane, York, Daikin) to moonlight for you.

hiring a consulting engineering company that deals with systems applications would be a mistake here.
