A friend asked me to ask the all knowing Aggies who he should talk to regarding his non-compete clause. The company he works for was sold and he doesn't want to work for the new overlords.

This would specifically be O&G.

I believe that doesn't go into effect until September? or something like that.

Depending on his skill set and level…I doubt they would pursue any kind of action.

If it's ChampionX/SLB, he'd be wise to run.

ChampionX is one of my biggest suppliers.

And they just got bought by our biggest competitor. So that's fun.

Honestly, if you've got a big enough account you just fall into the realm of frenemies. No manager is able to to go their executive and report cutting their nose off to spite their face. I would assume you have a two year runway, and even then companies like making money before they get choosy about who they are helping. First year of a merger is always just sorting out internal stuff, new owners tell their new asset to go make money the same way they always have.

Then a year later you'll get a new manager from the mothership who wasn't on the acquisition team. That guys job is to start bringing over the 'culture'. He'll have some easy targets but won't be able to strike until there are alternatives that are good enough to replace that revenue.

I guarantee you there is someone inside the purchased company that is thinking about striking out on their own.

Yeah, we do MILLIONS per year with them just in our one location alone. The portion of ChampionX I deal with is in Utah. If I'm not mistaken, SLB was really wanting the artificial lift portion of the ChampionX portfolio, which is where SLB was lacking. That's not my area, so hopefully I don't notice many changes.

ALS business has been in really good shape for SLB for a couple of years now. It is most likely not run like ChampionX is (or wants to be run in the future). ALS is a huge portion of it, but I believe the production chemicals business was just as big of a factor. This is going to be a complete culture shock for legacy ChampionX folks and they'll have to determine whether it's good or bad over time. Nothing significant changing in the first year, but the poster above hit the nail on the head re a new manager coming in to shove the "culture" down everyone's throats over time. Will be lots of turnover, as with any acquisition, but there are likely going to be more international opportunities than ChampionX folks have had in the pastthis is good and badcan't lose focus on the US land business that is likely ChampionX's core, but some will try to make that happen.
