Can you explain what you mean by work life balance? What are you envisioning? Seems to me in construction there are times when the job consumes your whole life but most of the time it's just like any other job. Unless you are working on a 24-7 highway project or LNG plant.

^ I agree I work commercial as a PM and I'm home every night by 6, there's times where it's later especially when close to substantial completion on big important jobs, but for the most part it's nothing out of ordinary.
