Howdy! I am a former student from the class of '87...(seems like yesterday)... Since graduating I have worked mainly in software development in the cellular/telecom arena but the last 4 years managed the development of a SaaS platform with .NET and SQL developers. I have been a software product owner for close to 10 years now and love the work and challenges and would like to see if anyone would know of any opportunities to work remotely. I live near Tyler so options are very slim locally.

Thank you!

I am some years (but not too much) years younger than you are but in the same area of work (Prod Mgmt). Since you are in telecom, you need to be where telecom products are built. It used to be Chicago but I don't know where it is now. It would help to move there. I am in the same boat, am in the Midwest where not much product work happens so plan to move to the West Coast in 2 years when I deal with family issues.

My last job was remote but I got laid off and then remote is hard to find. I will start a hybrid job soon in my own city. Super Lucky to get it. But I don't expect to be lucky every time.

Same line of work as well. About 10 YOE in Product. To go remote- or to get any interviews frankly…I've had to have someone pull my resume and refer it. Even in same industry and have had several people review my resume to make sure that wasn't issue.

My pattern to interviews has been:
- Apply to hybrid roles (DFW)
- Apply to remote role, check the company or the job poster and see if I have anyone connected in product department I've worked with. Ask them how well they know the connection..if they do, see if they can help.

Anything remote at a national level is oversaturated with big tech layoff applicants or cross posted as a near shored (columbia) role or India role.

Thanks for the advice. What you mentioned has been my experience as well, so I started looking for hybrid work in DFW hoping that they may only need me in the office one day a week. It would be a two hour drive one way.
