I know of a new Aggie grad, local to College Station, looking for a job.
He is a hard worker, willing to move, and willing to learn for the right position.

Interned last summer at a large ranching operation in S. TX. Got to work on every part of the business, from catlle production/feeding to accounting, sales, etc.

Major in rangeland management.
His profs loved him and are helping him look. He thought he was getting a great job in oilfield sales, but the company is going through a merge and that has slowed it to the point of being unsure if it will happen.
Worked jobs as a teen an in college at a local ranch, roofing company, a warehouse, and started by mowing lawns at 14. He knows how to work, is smart, and is I couldn't be prouder of the man he has become. He feels the responsibility of wanting to provide for a family and is chasing it.

I had not heard of this major until today, it seems like it deals with techniques to protect grasslands. Not sure if there is much demand for that. I saw some sites with jobs but they are all PhD, Prof and post doc research jobs.

I suggest he get into IT. It has a lower barrier to entry and you can grow if you are smart and work hard. Start with QA is always easiest and move up. Do a short course, even online and look for jobs.

He seems young so he can pivot at this age and think long term. It gets harder later on.

The key is to think long term about a career and work to it now. Not to bounce from job to job trying to figure it out.

There is a lot of opportunity with RWFM jobs in the environmental consulting field. I'm not sure when we'll hire our next entry level, but my regional team probably hires 1-2 people a year with range or wildlife degrees. Have him check the TAMU Wildlife job board. We post out jobs to the WFCS job board for new env techs and a lot of good kids come out of range for what we want.

As a guy who works & has worked in the oilfield at multiple levels in the field & technical roles - the best oilfield salesmen are the ones with the ground level experience to back it up. If thats what he wants to do - I'd suggest trying to get in with a Halliburton, Nextier, Nabors, Liberty etc etc. You don't need a degree to do any of the jobs out in field level- but it does help move up the chain.

Might be an opportunity to get on with one of many civil construction / reclamation contractors out there as well on the environmental side if that's what he's passionate about -especially if the kid can run a skid steer (guessing he can based on the description)
