Looking to transition out of construction management. Have been looking for positions at commercial real estate/development firms or owners reps, but have had trouble finding openings.

A couple months ago a mentor encouraged me to look into to construction sales. Have reached out to hiring/sales managers for wholesale distribution companies, but lack of sales experience seems to always be a hinderance. I've seen several posts of users that have made this transition, and would greatly appreciate hearing how your transition was made, if your work/life balance improved, and if you would recommend it to others.

call the people that currently sell to you (vendors) and ask if they know anyone hiring.

I'm at a GC, so thats typically limited to trailers, toilets, and fence, but I will try reaching out to trusted subcontractors and see if they have any leads. Appreciate the idea!

I would look at companies like White Cap, Euclid Chemical, Dayton Superior, Sika, Hilti, Bosch, Husqvarna etc. they're all very well known suppliers that are always hiring for sales in the Construction / Concrete industry. World of Concrete is also coming up and I'm not necessarily saying you should go (although it wouldn't be a bad thing) but you can look up the exhibitor list of who is going to get company names and start reaching out / applying from there.

I'm in renewable construction, and honestly you could pick one thing that your company uses (toilets, dumpsters, trucking, etc) and just do that well and you'd be a billionaire.

How many times have you said "this trucking company is worthless" or "why can't we get empty dumpsters on-time." or all the other little frustrations that exist in construction. Start with just one thing and do that thing really well, then add another service.

I am in sales for a manufacturers' representative for HVAC products in Central and South Texas. We are looking to hire inside sales people who have the potential to move in an outside role in the next 2-5 years. Shoot me a PM if you are interested in speaking more about it.

Greatly appreciate the the insight! Have two buddy's that just started a dumpster company, and another that just started a temp fence company. So certainly not knocking the opportunity, just that there were fewer options available. I'm looking into those avenues as well!

Is it this by chance? I am not in construction, but thought this was a cleaver idea. They franchise as well.

It is not, but thats awesome. Great idea to incorporate the portable toilet. Curious how they keep track of cleanings vs haul off.
