Hey all,

My father in law is a plant manager in south Texas. Lots of YOE, lots of measurable outputs on his resume. He's looking to move to Houston/BCS area to be close to his first grandkid. I was thinking of going to a recruiting agency near BCS and trying that, but no idea if that is the right strategy. Manfacturing is also totally outside my wheelhouse.

Go with that approach, or go another path? Thanks in advance.

Just look for plant manager jobs on LinkedIn and indeed and apply. No need to go through a recruitment agency for that, unless there is one that specializes in those types of positions.

Will advise he do that. I think he was trying that and not having much luck, which is why I was going to go via recruiting agency.

Im a plant manager as well, but in power gen and cryos. Agreed on above, just find the jobs on LinkedIn, apply directly to company website and then find the recruiter or a recruiter at that comapny and then reach out to them directly too. I am looking as well, but internationally. Its pretty tough out there, but there are a lot of openings and with YOE he probably can land something if he is persistent.

This will be anecdotal, so take it for what it is worth, but I went from one Plant Manger job and searched for another in the Houston area earlier this year. It took me about 4-5 months of looking, interviewing, etc before I found this new one. I passed one up that was tempting for the money, but the commute was too much for my likes. So, the jobs are out there, just have to keep at it. Having some good experience helps. Houston has a lot of manufacturing plants in the area.

I would focus on LinkedIn and Indeed as my primary searches. I occasionally got hits on other sites (Zip Recruiter, Monster, etc), but not as much as those 2.

The Charlotte Pipe plant in Cameron is looking for a new plant manager
The problem with people that don't get it is they don't get that they don't get it.
