**WARNING LONG***

TL/DR: Looking for work/new career path. Highly motivated and fast learner.

LONG:

Good afternoon, Ags.

I have an interesting path that has lead me here over the past few years. I worked in commercial real estate for a few years after graduating back in 2013 and did well but decided that was not the right fit for me. Took a job that I enjoyed doing quotations and sales for commercial plumbing wholesaler and was doing really well and saw myself being at that company for a long time.

After 4 years of that, my father was the owner of an engineer / survey company and was getting close to retirement. He tried to sell mutliple times but it kept falling through. I am a quick learner, great with numbers, and fairly business savy, so he offered me a job to come on and learn the ins and outs of the business, so that I could take over the business aspect while his right hand engineer and surveyor took a piece of the company and continued running those departments as part owner. They wanted nothing to do with the actual business/finance portions.

I took the job and within 6 months my father received an offer he couldn't refuse and he sold the company. I get it, I wasn't mad at all.

However, that left me in a vulnerable place. I was, however, an integral piece in all of the actual sale contract/details, negotiations, etc..and the new owners liked me so much that they wanted to keep me on as a project manager somewhere in the company.

They put me in the S.U.E. department to learn that side of the business and I really enjoyed it, however, after 6 months or so the Utility Coordination team needed help so they shifted me into that role. I enjoyed the coordination aspect but my boss was an older gentleman that was not very interested in actually teaching me what I needed to learn so it wasn't very enjoyable. After about another 6 months in that role, both of my bosses/senior coordinator left and took a job with our competitor.

They recently moved me into the LiDAR department and am getting rave reviews on how quick of a learner I am and how well I am picking up the job. However, the LiDAR manager didn't realize how much I was getting paid (managers type pay) before he took me on. He then went to the regional manager to ask if they can eat the costs for 6 months until I am ready to take over as Project Manager. (I also volunteered to reduce my pay until then but they said they didn't want to do that)

In that same timeframe, our regional manager and CEO that kept me on because they liked me so much, retired. We have had two new regional managers since, and I just semi-overheard a conversation with the new regional manager and my boss along the lines of not being able to make this work at my current salary. So it is not looking good.

So I am preparing for the worst and wanting to start looking at my options, seeing if anyone out there is hiring that can use my skills. Also looking for recommendations on new career path. I am interested in sales, procurement, project management, etc... I am willing to work hard and do anything to provide for my family young family of 4.

Thanks and Gig' em!

Today I got the word. Well I was offered a different position within the company for a 35% pay cut. I'm going to turn them down but I'm leaving this weekend for vacation so they said I can have the week to think about it and then the following will probably be my last.

I will be reaching out to those who previously responded but also will look into any other opportunities out there.

Anyone hiring for a motivated teammate ready to get to work?

Whats the advantage of turning them down?

Why not accept and look for other opportunities while you are still getting paid? From my experience, A LOT easier and less stressful to look for work when you are employed and collecting checks. Being out of work can be stressful if it lasts longer than you expected which could impact how you interview. Yeah, you are getting paid less but its better than $0.

(There might be more to this that was included but I'm having a hard time understanding the "turning them down" part)

Great question and I'll probably end up doing that but what I meant was this isn't a role I am going to just accept and stay at for 35% less pay. I'm going to be pursuing something else.

But I am hopeful it won't take long as I believe I already have a few quality options, but at this point I want to try and make sure I choose a role and career I will truly enjoy and be passionate about rather than just show up to work each day, do stuff and collect a paycheck. So I'm going to look at ALL options and move forward where I believe I can be happy and kick some *** along the way

Is there anything you can try to negotiate into making the switch with the 35% decrease?

One-time bonus?
More PTO?

I know you will hopefully move on soon, but if you stay there for the short-term, maybe you can get something in return.
