Have a kid thinking about land surveying as a career after high school. He's been weighing either wildlife biology or land surveying. Wanting to get him in contact with someone who might be able to help him decide or mentor. Any help would be appreciated.

Take a summer gig as a survey tech doing the hard work in the field. Kerr, Baseline, ATM Surveying, Carlomagno, a lot of outfits that I am sure would gladly hire some labor.

Likely more money in surveying than wildlife biology, depending on how far he can take his career in the industry.

I am an RPLS and would be happy to answer any questions. Shoot me an email.

Why not both? I started my career as an Environmental Scientist at a large engineering firm. I was walking transmission line ROWs doing wetland surveys while the surveyors were out doing survey. Based on my experience the ceiling is higher for wildlife biologists, but it's highly dependent on the type of firm/company.
