I suppose it also depends on how much you like your current situation....so lets factor that in.

I left a major pipeline company around 7 years ago for another major for 50% more and promotion. I still debate if it was a good idea. The new company worked you to death and I didnt agree with a lot of how we did things for the longest time. Today, I would consider 30% more to leave if I knew the culture was a good fit and the company was solid.

too many other factors for me.

for instance 30% for a very similar work experience/environment and i'd probably jump. 50% bump, but i have to go into an office every day, inflexible schedule, increased travel, etc and i'll say no all day long.

My current situation isn't as good as it was due to some restructuring and losing what i consider vital resources has increased the amount of work I have to do. That said, I still have it good. I don't report to an office. My manager is great. I have complete control over my calendar/day. There's corporate BS i have to deal with, but overall, its a fairly low stress job. I get paid pretty well and have lots of time off.

I'm less focused on total comp at this point and more on ensuring that I'm in a role that has me in a good spot to land the ultimate C level role I want. More money but further from that outcome would be a step back IMO.

If I were to leave solely for money I'd need 30%+ increase in total comp, not just salary.

Like you said, it depends on how much I like my job. If I absolutely hate my job or boss, then I would probably take a pay cut for something with less stress or fully remote. If I loved my job, then not sure the money would matter to switch, I would just stay. Ive left bad situations to only end up in even worse situations, so whenever I like a job I tend to stay.

I've made two moves laterally for 20% more each. With where I'm at now it would have to be 30%

Good strategy and I think of it similarly. At this point in my career, I would rather be happy in my job versus making more money. Ive gotten 30% increases to switch only to hate the new job and instantly regretted it. I look for "good fit" jobs/companies/bosses as opposed to just total compensation, but of course money is always important too lol.

I'm in a place that makes me happy so not really looking to jump. I'm also a fair ways under 100K though so my 15% is not analogous to some here.

That being said if I were approached with a 30+% jump with better benefits and similar responsibilities and growth? I'd think about it at least.

I'd gladly take a greater cut than that for something less stressful that basically covers my bills for the few years I have left until retirement.

To stay in the area and have the same schedule flexibility: +20% and I'm outty.
To move somewhere else in Texas, but have to go to the office everyday: +30% and I'd consider it.
To move out of state: would have to take a hard look at cost of living, housing to see if it's worth it. For the right number I would consider NW Arkansas, TN, Florida, or the Carolinas.

Took a 50% cut and did exactly that. Well, changed fields entirely really.

My only regret is that I did not do it sooner. My descriptive word was stronger than "hate" though.

Too many factors.....

But, my last job I wasn't a huge fan of. I liked the people, it was easy, and I was paid well. But it was very tactical, no strategic outlook at all, and I was bored. My current company called and it was more or less the same pay, but way better benefits, and I jumped at it.

Now, I've gotten about 25% in raises in the last 3 years and it'd probably take me 35+% to jump, assuming all benefits stayed the same. However, my company's benefits are pretty solid, for example 6 weeks PTO. So if the company I'm jumping to had benefits more in line with previous companies I've been with, it'd probably take 50% for me to even consider....

Have been completely happy at my current company that I started with in January.

About to take a job at another firm running their SATX office and getting a 36% pay bump in salary, more PTO, and a 5% bonus incentive on annual gross billing for SA office.

0% (actually -10%), but home nightly and not working in Houston/DFW/Austin metroplexes....

Currently 14 on 14 off, great money, time away sucks, time at home always feels rushed. Still loads better than commuting to Houston / DFW / Austin

Hell, 5% would do it if it means I can have a hybrid schedule and not have to listen to these boomers clear their throats every 10 seconds.

I job hopped early in my career for money, steps up, and quality of life. Because of that, now I wouldn't leave where I am, I found the right spot for me.
Having been through it several times, I would just encourage folks who job hop to think about the whole picture - quality of life, benefits, relative job security, promotional opportunities, etc.
Some things are more important than money.

current job is 9.5/10 but the low stress and normal hours is well worth the total comp package. probably would need 50% for the unknown in new stress levels and workload increase.
