Needing some guidance on hourly rate as well as salary… My girlfriend is making a career transition. She worked for a decade as a sales and marketing professional. She now has an opportunity on the advertising/marketing agency side of things, which is what she is interested in doing. It's through a friend of a friend and she has a more formal interview next week, but so far she has been told that it would be a project manager type of position overseeing the project workflow as well as interacting with clients. She also has the opportunity to get involved in the sales/business development side. But the potential employer is asking what type of hourly rate she would need...

She has tried to do some research of our own but results are all over the place. Any guidance or advice on what would be low/middle/high hourly rate?

Desired salary per year / 40 hrs per week / 52 = desired $$/hour.

If OT is going to be expected / worked, then I'd shoot to make that just icing on the cake and try and get to my desired salary with the base pay per hour without OT included.

I am not sure what the position is worth so no help there.

If a 1099 position, then she will be paying the full 15% for self employment tax where normally the company pays 7.5% and employees 7.5%. Also no taxes are taken out for a 1099 position, so make sure she is stashing away 30%+ for taxes at end of year!

All this plus 20-30% markup for fringes.
