What is the best approach for a young guy (27) to get into the oil and gas drilling field? Single with no attachments to keep him from being able to work anywhere.

Also, is it harder to get into offshore than onshore?

TIA

Patterson UTI looks to have a floor hand position open in the Permian and others in different basins they are drilling in.

H&P looks to have multiple floor hand positions on shore and roustabout positions off shore.

Are they dead set on the drilling side of things? I made the move from the drilling side of the industry to the production side and it is much more steady/not near as volatile as drilling being tied to the price of a bbl of oil.

Construction, some welding/metal shop and handy man type experience. No oil and gas experience.

The previous operator I worked for, now called Vital Energy, formerly Laredo Petroleum, LOVES hiring operators with no oilfield experience, they like this so they can train guys the way they want them to be trained without someone showing up thinking they already know how to do the specific job task. My current employer PNR is about to make a big push to hire production operators with no experience as well. I think around 1 dozen jobs will be posted fairly soon. $40-50/hr.

Unless this fella is just dead set on the drilling side of O&G and having two weeks off at a time, I will shout this from the mountain top, I would seriously look into the production side of the industry over drilling.

The man camp life isn't for me, I like to go home every night and see my kids and wife and enjoy the family farm we live right by, even though he is single, being at home every evening and not in a camper or man camp is nice.

I used to hire rig hands for an offshore drilling company. Yes, it is easier to get hired onshore vs offshore. My advice is to apply to all of the land drilling companies for entry level roles, get a year or so experience, and then apply offshore. It will be much easier this way.

Connect with all of the recruiters from the onshore and offshore companies on Linkedin and keep pestering them.

Pioneer has a field around Big Lake, and then around Midland. Largest producer in the Permian.

PNR posted new openings on their careers tab looking for more Production Operators around Midland. Very good company to work for with awesome pay and the best benefits around.

Pioneer used to be better before the layoffs. Used to work for them. The geo and drilling groups lack some serious leadership.

We are growing and hiring in multiple operational areas. We are a services company that works on frac jobs but we have figured out our monitoring technology can be used to detect sinkholes, monitor Carbon storage and up next will be enhanced geothermal systems.
