How many other Ags out there got a piece of paper just to squirt some water, diagnose a nose bleed, or haul somebody off to jail? Might be best to leave our agencies out of this, but give a quick shoutout.

Five Year Hoseman (Firefighter) here!

Been in high volume 911 agency for four years in north Houston area. Former teacher that wanted a change in my life. Much better return on investment than a Bachelors and I am much happier.

If you know of anyone looking to work on ambulance, reach out. Email in profile.

Left my job in the corporate world almost two years ago to pursue a career in the fire service. Six months in with my department and it's been the best decision I ever made.

While we're at it, current students feel free to ask questions on here about first responder careers. I'm sure there is a wealth of knowledge to glean from with these guys and gals.

For a big city department like Houston FD, Chicago/NY there will be but smaller departments in the suburbs usually do not.

Extensive list of resources.

I can't speak for outside of Texas, but in the DFW burbs 90% is have to be over 18 and under 35, cannot have your 36th birthday by date of hire. Garland, plano, Carrollton, Southlake, Mesquite, Desoto, Irving, Farmers Branch etc are civil service and require age parallel

Waco doesn't seem to have an upper age limit. Occasionally you find a departments like this, but standard practice what FireFightAg has described.

If you want to do an online fire academy while working, check out training division. I went to a community college to get my certs, but a lot of my coworkers went here. It is an option for working folks.

I wish I has access to the trial testimony, the PCR, and the protocols of that department. I also saw an article that says the deceased was not a patient, and that the EMS crew should have just walked away.
