I don't have a dog in this fight, but a 10 year old account with 6k+ posts accused of being a sock is pretty funny. If that's really what it is then that's some serious dedication.

about as unbelievable as them allowing you to come over the top and crap on everyone's post that had/has good comments to say. Look, we get it...you didn't have a good experience and from following all your posts, he has offered to try and make this right. Are you going to make it your life's work to destroy this dude's business or what? Surely your time would be spent better elsewhere?

I saw tons of recommendations for James on here. So I reached out and he helped me out and I'm very happy with the work. Thought I'd bring it here to post a positive experience like the many others I had seen.

Hopefully via a sponsor link someday so he can pay for all of the advertising he does here.

Wondered how long it would be before another thread titled with the guy's name would grace this board after the last was locked. Yes let's all continue promoting this non-Ag's "services" that Ags could otherwise get for free with the career center.

How do you work in the real world considering there are many "non-Ags" out there?

I honestly don't get the hate for this guy from the few posters that do.

This forum is for helping and networking, not for selling something that people here or at the career center would otherwise offer for free. I'd provide links to his posts which were straight up unpaid ads, but I can't cause staff deleted them.

I haven't had a personal issue with him that caused me to speak up. I just don't like the predatory behavior I've seen here - trying to make a buck off of people asking for help.

Certainly entitled to your opinion but I would offer that you get what you pay for and generally collegiate career resources centers are geared toward helping students, new grads, and early-stage folk not mid-to-senior level professionals that have an established network in a specific industry.

Charging someone for a service and helping someone are not mutually exclusive things.

This is a great point. They deal mostly with this kind of person so their experience would be limited in the mid to senior level professionals.

My first choice would always be peers or individuals who I've already networked with to look at my resume as well as family (Dad and sister in law) who are experienced in my industry or in recruiting. Career center would take a backseat to that. But your friends, family and network are always going to think highly of you and the career center is going to think highly of you "because you're an Ag." Those are taken out of the equation by going to an unknown.

I have a feeling that's how James P Shelley started his business - he was really good at helping out his friends, his friends said he was awesome and decided to pursue outside connections and start a business.

Pretty infiltrating the largest collegiate websites and not paying for his "advertising" is how he started

I'm 40 years old. I have been around the block enough times to know what I will be getting with 'free' stuff. An instrument for securing gainful employment is not where I want 'free' services. I was placed at a PROFESSIONAL CAREER TRANSITION firm when I was laid off. They did resume re-writes, courses, mock interviews, EVERYTHING. It paled in comparison to James Shelley's work on my resume. They did poor work because they have turnover with people 'doing their job'. This is more of an art form and I feel like you need a specialized person to do that. I wouldn't take my car to jiffy lube for an engine rebuild. Don't jiffy lube your resume.

He wrote my initial resume.
He has updated it more times than I can recall now.
He adds and deletes what I ask him to as it is pertinent to the purpose of whatever situation I'm in and trying to achieve.

We are all adults here. There is NO ONE here forcing anyone to use his services. ONE person here has made it their life's work to bad mouth him, and frankly, the more it goes on, the more I think it's just trolling for attention. That person has been offered free fixes to make it right and they refuse. The reason for that, I suspect, is that, acceptance of correction renders all additional complaints invalid and no more fussing and whining on texags could be done.

I am pretty sure that there are at least a few ags that would submit their resume via email if someone wants to see Jim's work. My email is username at gmail. If you want to see what I had and what he did, then shoot me an email. I'll show you what he did. I was happy with it. If you don't like it, then don't use him. If you do, give him a shout.

J Shelley is a good dude who does fantastic work. The comment about his work being an "art" is absolutely correct. It takes a LOT of skill to generate questions from a potential employer. THAT is his skill. You have to do the rest.

Same. It wasn't cheap, but I was pleased with the work and the amount of time he put into asking lots of questions to understand what I wanted to communicate. We worked a deal for a discount for my wife's resume as well.

The results spoke for themselves afterwards.

Really James??? This is unnecessary. No reason to go around correcting people's punctuation and/or grammar. [STAFF]

When I was laid off recently he helped me with my resume free of charge. He didn't have to do that. I sent him my resume and he suggested some edits and walked through why he suggested those edits.

He mentioned he had paid services he could offer, but James went through a couple email exchanges and iterations of my resume with me and I ended up finding a new job.

He didn't charge me a cent and helped me (a relatively recent grad that has only had one job out of college) put together a professional looking resume that got me in the door.

Take that as you will

If you're going to be a dick and go around correcting other people's posts, it'd be best to make sure yours is airtight before you click "Post". Otherwise, you come across as a person who claims to be a technical writer but is severely lacking in the proofreading department. Moron.

How many times did you reread your post to make sure it was airtight? Good catch.

I don't understand the animosity towards me, but accept it for I subscribe to the "I control nothing" philosophy. The passage of time will cause that in a person. Time tempers people. I'll continue believing that those forum participants leaving certain comments and commentary are, in real life, nice people. I'll continue to believe my A&M clients are the best clients with whom I've had the privilege of serving in spite of the forum participants who for years have disparaged my name, questioned my desire to help people, and tested my steadfast determination to continue aiding A&M students and alumni.

I think part of the animosity would go away if you bought an ad.
