DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Interpret basic building codes and provide code regulation information to design professionals and other customers. Research building codes and standards to compose Code Word interpretation documents. Draft procedures and guidelines for code implementation. Prepare reports and databases for management projects; produce new forms and documents for the division; and prepare correspondence as needed. Participate in Construction Industry Council code committees, analyze codes for amendments, identify appropriate building code sections for code changes, record decisions, and modify model code language to incorporate Houston code changes. Coordinate with design professionals and city personnel to finalize code changes for adoption. Prepare drafts for the amendments to the Building, Mechanical, Electrical, Energy, Plumbing and Fire Codes; and facilitate publication of the amendments. Coordinate meetings, schedule code training and testing and maintain Code Book and Publication orders. Perform other duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS
The position occasionally requires stooping or bending and occasional very light lifting up to 20 pounds. There are occasional minor discomforts from exposure to less than optimal temperature and air conditions.

This is a Department of Public Works & Engineering Emergency Management position at the Tier III Level.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires an Associate's degree in Business Administration or a field related to area of compliance. Requires in-depth knowledge of applicable federal, state and local regulations. May require understanding of complex technical regulatory data or requirements.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
One year of experience in the area of compliance is required. Two years of responsible experience in the area of compliance may be substituted for the degree requirement.

PREFERENCES:
Preference may be given to applicants with ICC Code Certification and MS Office experience.

**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualification necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.**
